Selecting paints for wallpaper under painting

In each of the three groups of wallpaper (paper, non-woven and fiberglass) there is a type intended for painting. In this case, two reasonable questions arise. First: "Why do additional work - to glue the wallpaper first, then to paint them?" Second: "What paint for wallpaper under painting should I buy?" The first question can be answered thus. Of course, it is more economical and less labor-consuming to do with leveling the surface with subsequent painting. But there is a danger of microcracks appearing on the walls and ceiling surfaces when shrinking, especially in new buildings. Therefore, it is better to disguise them with wallpaper. An ornamental effect created with the help of wallpaper is also important. Pasted with paper wallpaper, the ceiling and walls give the impression of a homogeneous, seamless surface. The white structural wallpaper with a non-woven base is painted in obligatory order, with a relief pattern made of foamed vinyl on the front side, as well as the actual non-woven wallpaper. This is done because the surface of such wallpaper is very easy to damage. Therefore, to strengthen the top layer it is painted. It is also necessary to stain glass mosaic.

In stores now a huge selection of colors. For work, such waterborne paints as acrylic paint for wallpaper, silicone and silicate are used. When buying wallpaper, ask for instructions. It indicates which glue to apply for gluing, what color to paint the wallpaper. Paper wallpaper in rooms where walls will rarely be exposed to external effects, can be painted with acrylic water-dispersion paint. It gives matte whiteness. Where there is inevitable contamination of surfaces, it is better to apply acrylic-latex paint. Such a choice will allow creating a hypoallergenic, "breathing" and impeccably white coating that is qualitative, non-fading, resistant to contamination and penetration of moisture. When adding colors, they achieve all possible shades, while the quality of the paint does not change. It is enough to apply two thin layers. This paint can withstand wet cleaning using detergents up to 5,000 times. Only water-dispersion latex paints for wallpaper for painting are used for non-woven fabrics. The easiest way to dye this type of wallpaper is from the outside when completely dry after gluing. For uniform coloring, it is possible to paint non-woven wallpaper from the back side. Then the front side of the structure will remain white, and the fleece will be painted.

Other paints for wallpaper under painting

Glass-fiber wallpaper can be painted with any paint, including alkyd enamel. It creates a wear-resistant moisture-proof film on the wallpaper, which allows you to repeatedly wash the surface using detergents. Disadvantages of the coating of alkyd paints: violation of the microclimate of the room (complete moisture-airtightness), toxicity during application and drying. It is not recommended for painting the wallpaper in living rooms.

When choosing fiberglass, you need to take into account their texture: the weakly disappears after applying the paint in several layers. Water-dispersion paints are the most ecological, but less durable. Where there is no need to wash the surface often, this indicator is not so important. The best water-dispersed paint will be latex-based paint.
