GKL "Knauf": technical characteristics, dimensions

Not so long ago, few people knew about gypsum cardboard. Repairing the premises, they used plaster and plaster, which made it possible to decorate them with greater expressiveness. Nowadays , architects and designers are surprised at how specialists could previously have been engaged in finishing without using (GKL) plasterboard sheets. After all, it is this material that helps to realize the most courageous projects and bizarre fantasies.

With the help of gypsum cardboard it is possible to create a multi-level ceiling with illumination, also called labyrinthine ceilings. You can create niches in the walls of any shape and size. With the invention of drywall it became possible to create countless unique interior compositions.

Structure of plasterboard sheets

The Knauf (Knauf) gypsum board is very popular . Gypsum plasterboard GKL (a usual kind) is issued in the form of sheets. The basis of gypsum board is gypsum, which is located between two sheets of cardboard.

To impart certain properties to the gypsum boards, various substances are added to the middle part, improving its strength, moisture resistance and other properties.

Strict labeling standards are not available, which creates certain difficulties for the buyer when choosing the right material. When choosing a drywall, one should not focus only on the color of the GKL sheets "Knauf". Technical characteristics of the purchased goods should be decisive.

Types of plasterboard

Gypsum cardboard is produced in four types - depending on its properties and application:

  • Normal.
  • Moisture-proof.
  • Fireproof.
  • Moisture-resistant.
  1. GKL - this gypsum plasterboard sheet is the most ordinary. It is used only in dry rooms, where the humidity of air is minimal or completely absent.
  2. GKVL - having a reduced water absorption of gypsum board for use in wet rooms. Such a sheet of drywall absorbs less than 10% of water, having a special resistance to penetration of moisture. On specially treated surfaces of cardboard cladding GKVL mold is not formed and fungi do not appear.
  3. GKLO - used wherever fire prevention is important, fireproof plasterboard. The core of this sheet is reinforced with special strengthening additives.
  4. GKLVO - gypsum board with high resistance to open flame and increased moisture resistance. In fact, it is a symbiosis of drywall fireproof sheet with gipsokartonnym sheet moisture-resistant.

Technical characteristics of gypsum plasterboard - GKL "Knauf"

Drywall is used for the installation of suspended ceilings, cladding and creating niches in the walls, it is used when creating partitions between rooms with humidity within the limits of the norm.

Usually gypsum board is used as a frame for subsequent application to it of various finishing materials - paints, tiles, wallpaper, etc. As a result, a sufficiently firm and flexible base is obtained.

Cardboard, which is glued on both sides of the core of the drywall sheet, has a flat surface and high density. It serves for finishing, as it is firm and flexible, and also has the property of "breathing", that is, the material absorbs excess moisture, and when the air becomes more dry - it gives it back.

Due to this ability in premises in which drywall is used, it is much easier to breathe. In addition, drywall has the same acidity as human skin. As a result, a favorable microclimate is naturally created in the room.

Fire resistance of gypsum boards

Special treatment of a single combustible material GCR - cardboard - makes this material incombustible in general. Under the influence of open fire, drywall sheets are only charred, and moisture contained in the depth of the leaf prevents the movement of the flame.

GKL "Knauf" (gypsum plasterboard ordinary 1 and other types) is an environmentally friendly building material, since it does not have any negative impact on the surrounding objects, which is confirmed in quality certificates. In addition, the GKL is also an excellent soundproof material.

Use of plasterboard

In addition to interior decoration of premises, flat sheets of plasterboard are widely used for leveling the unevenness of walls, therefore GKL is also called dry plaster. When working with ipsokartonnymi sheets excluded associated with the use of water processes, which facilitates the work and reduces its cost, making gypsum board even more attractive for both professionals and newcomers in the field of construction and repair.

The absence of garbage also makes working with plasterboard much easier. Not to mention the fact that finishing with the use of this material, finishing work can significantly save money and time. In our country the GKL "Knauf" is used most often, its technical characteristics favorably distinguish it from a number of similar ones from other manufacturers.

In addition to GKL (standard gipsokartonnyh sheets) are produced waterproof and fireproof sheets. Moisture-resistant plasterboard sheets are used mainly in bathrooms and kitchens. When finishing the communication shafts and air ducts, the fireproof GKL "Knauf" is used, the technical characteristics of which are easy to do.

When making gypsum board, also burnt gypsum is used, which makes it possible, in the end, to get pile-and-groove plates. They are characterized by high strength and are therefore often used in the design of interior partitions. No pre-preparation before finishing such slabs do not require. The partitions are made one-, two- and three-layer. Particularly relevant are pogo-slabs in regions with unstable seismic conditions. Cavities located inside such plates, lay cables, dust extraction systems, heating or water supply communication systems.

Creating Rounded Shapes

An important property of drywall is its ability to take a round shape, which makes a wide area of its application. The desired form is obtained simply: you need to moisten the gypsum board, wait until it is properly moistened, and then bend it as needed in a particular case. After that, the drywall is dried. It is noteworthy that after hardening, the technical characteristics of Knauf sheets completely return to the original.

Types of plasterboard sheets

There are ceiling, wall and arched plasterboard. The fact that the sheets of this material are flat, makes it easy to fix the unevenness of the walls or ceiling. There is no need for further plastering of surfaces.

The geometric dimensions of the GKL "Knauf" are very diverse. Length - from 2000 cm to 4000 cm (in 50 increments) and width - from 600 cm to 1200 cm. The thickness is: 0.65, 0.8, 0.95, 1.25, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.4 cm - depending on Material assignment.

The standard size of the drywall sheet is 2500 by 1200 cm. The area of this sheet is equal to three square meters. In terms of thickness, they are as follows:

  • GKL wall - 12.5 mm;
  • GKL ceiling - 9,5 mm;
  • GKL arched - 6,5 mm.

Walls with gypsum boards are used to decorate walls, from which partitions are arranged. Ceiling is used to create ceilings, and with the help of arched create refined interior arches and various curvilinear apertures.

The amount of necessary material is calculated in advance, given that it is desirable to use whole sheets when finishing.

In addition to the creation of conventional, suspended and multi-level ceilings attached to various frames, the GKL sheet produced by Knauf (Knauf) is used for the construction of an underlayer of floors.

Another important property of GCR is its ability to easily bend and maintain its shape. Due to this, plasterboard is widely used in the creation of decorative elements, turning from rectangular sheets to domes, columns or vaults. The designers have the opportunity to translate into reality the most daring fantasies.

Gypsum fiber sheets (GVL) - another type of GKL "Knauf", the technical characteristics of which speak of the highest resistance to fire. It does not use cardboard, but the core of the sheet is lined with fluffy waste paper. Resistance to fire and add additional additives, which impregnate the material.

Working with plasterboard

Gypsum plasterboards are easily cut with a conventional knife (preferably sharp) and are perfectly sawed, except that they perfectly bend. With the help of special tools, it is possible to cut out details of any size and shape, and also to make necessary holes in them. The fact that marking and cutting holes, for example, for outlets and switches, possibly outside the installation site, can significantly shorten the time of work.

If you compare the finish with plasterboard with plaster and putty finishing, then it is obvious that in the first case the works are performed twice as fast. With a high quality of labor costs are reduced threefold when manufacturing interior partitions, if you use gypsum cardboard "Knauf". Knauf gypsum plasterboard sheets GKL are mounted with the help of accompanying materials, such as screws of various sizes, gypsum glue, tape for sealing and so on.
