Niche in the wall as an element of decor
Creating a niche in the wall is one of the long-known techniques of interior design. In the past, arched and lancet niches were most often used in religious buildings or for decorating aristocratic houses. Modern designers have found a more practical purpose for such depressions, and now they serve not only as an element of decor. If the walls of the room, for example, have a complex "relief" or contain various protruding elements, then the niche in the wall is the most suitable solution for all such problems.
The niche in the wall not only disguises the existing construction shortcomings, but also visually expands the room, there will be an additional place where you can put books, TV, vases or figurines. Depending on the desire, you can create a design of any kind and complexity, different depths and shapes. You can make the floor niches, but you can wall or ceiling. The illumination installed in them will only add to the room mystery, nobility and coziness.
The internal surface of the niches is often painted in colors, contrasting the main. If the niche in the wall is shallow, then it is painted more densely, spacious designs - in lighter colors or shades. In pair with the top illumination the painted surfaces look tremendously. The form of the decorative groove should also correspond to other lines of the interior, and be repeated in them: in the form of doorways, furniture, ceiling structures.
The niche is a functional decor, comfortable and stylish. It is used in many interior styles. For example, the design of a niche in a wall in a classical style or modernist style consists in the use of elegant stucco molding, in rooms with Arab or oriental colors - lamps or lights. Such niches are usually shallow and serve as a kind of showcase for jewelry, photographs and accessories.
In general, grooves in the walls for any style are an excellent background for figurines, paintings and other decorative objects. A room decorated in a minimalist style, for example, is filled with a small amount of furniture. Therefore, you can not do without niches: they can hide furniture or household appliances, and with this help expand the space. Built in the wall cabinets, designs from several niches, used instead of racks, it is a widely used design technique that creates ease and room in the room
The wall to which a wide bed is attached, remains completely empty rarely. For the design of the headboard use mirrors and paintings, lamps and posters, woven, wooden and leather panels, and much more. A niche in the wall for a bed is another fairly common form of design. It will allow you to integrate bedside lighting, can play the role of shelves, which are usually placed in the necessary things in the bedroom.
The niche in the wall is an excellent way to identify areas in long corridors, narrow halls, small rooms with high ceilings. Due to the large area of the walls, it is rather difficult to create a cozy atmosphere in such premises. But the use of plasterboard partitions and wall niches will completely change the geometry of the walls and will avoid monotony in the interior.
Vertical decorative grooves help visually raise the low ceilings. An even greater effect will be created if you install a highlight in the niche or make its inner surface mirror. For a narrow room with high ceilings, horizontal niches are ideal. They will expand the room and "cut" the height of the walls.
