Screw foundation with your own hands - quickly and reliably

The foundation on screw piles is used in the construction of low-rise, private houses, capital and temporary economic buildings. The main advantages of such a foundation are: its reliability on any ground, including wetlands, independence from the climatic conditions of the region, in addition, such grounds do not need a flat area. All this attracts developers. So, we build the foundation with our own hands.

What is the foundation on piles

To build a screw foundation with your own hands, you first need to understand what a screw pile is. It is a stainless steel pipe with a pointed tip, to which a blade is welded, resembling a propeller in appearance . The blade is screwed into the ground to the required depth. The depth of the pile depends directly on the type of structure for which the screw foundation is made by hand. A brick or wooden house, a bath or an economic block requires different depths of screwing the pile into the ground, but in any case it can not be less than one and a half meters.

If you make a firm decision that you will build a foundation on piles with your own hands, then the work will require the help of several people. Screw piles by rotating them to the required depth. It should be taken into account that if at that moment stones, roots of trees or something else that interferes with the process are encountered on the pile's path, the pile must be unscrewed, the place cleared, and only then should work continue. After screwing the piles on the top, special plate-heads are welded on which the load from the structure will be distributed.

The piles themselves (for stiffening the whole structure) are joined by a wooden beam or a metal channel. When the required depth is achieved, the pile, thanks to the blades, is securely and firmly fixed in the ground. Building a screw foundation with your own hands, you need to remember that the key role is played by the quality of the piles. In this case, the quality of the metal, the location of the blades (they do not have to be symmetrical) and their manufacturing technology also matters.

The foundation on such piles is not very complicated in construction and has a number of advantages in comparison with other types. These include low cost, a long service life (over one hundred years), a short (from one to two days) installation period, seismic resistance and, as mentioned above, the possibility of erecting on any soils and year-round. In addition, the helical foundation, built by oneself, assumes that after the installation of the piles, you can immediately begin further work on erecting the building, since it does not give a draft. The foundation on such piles is not without drawbacks: it is the impossibility of the basement room equipment, the need to insulate the lower part of the building and the weight limitation of the erected building.

If the screw piles are chosen correctly, and the process of their installation is not broken, then a reliable and solid foundation will be obtained, which will last the structure and will last for many years.
