Pediatric testis in a newborn: what to do?

Congenital edema of the testicle in a newborn is a disease that occurs as a result of a violation of the outflow of fluid. The disease manifests a noticeable increase in the testicle as a result of the accumulation of fluid in it. It is worth noting that the dropsy of a testicle in a child can be either one-sided or two-sided.

Pediatric epididymis in the newborn: reasons

The dropsy is caused by abnormalities in the development of the testicle still in the womb. The fact is that during the formation of the genital organs of the boy in the scrotum, not only the testicles fall, but also the vaginal process - a part of the peritoneum. Normally, the opening of this appendage overgrows, but in some cases it remains open and creates the possibility of fluid accumulation. In some cases, the hole grows itself after birth - in this case, treatment is not required.

As for the reasons for such a violation, modern medicine knows a few:

- the pregnant woman has such harmful habits as alcohol abuse, smoking (both active and passive);

- improper intake of certain medications;

- penetration into the body of a woman of rubella or chickenpox;

Intrauterine infectious disease of the fetus;

- genetic heredity, and this inclination can be transferred from both father and grandfather, and from previous generations;

- Severe trauma to the groin area.

Pediatric epididymis in the newborn: symptoms

The main sign of dropsy is, of course, an increase in one or two eggs at once. It is worth noting that the size of the dropsy directly depends on the amount of accumulated fluid. The amount of liquid can vary from a few milliliters to 1-3 liters.

There is also such a thing as communicating dropsy. With this form of disease, the fluid circulates between the testicle and the abdominal cavity. In an upright position, the scrotal enlargement immediately catches the eye, but as soon as the child takes a horizontal position, all the symptoms disappear, as the fluid moves into the abdominal cavity. That is why it is so important that parents closely follow the development of their baby.

The increase in the volume of the testicles in some cases is so great that the child can no longer stand or sit, as it experiences constant discomfort. Despite this, the disease almost never causes a pain syndrome.

Pediatric testis in a newborn: diagnosis

In most cases, the diagnosis of such a disease - the process is fairly simple. An experienced physician has a thorough visual examination and palpation to determine the presence of the disease.

In the future, the child is usually sent for ultrasound, which accurately determines the presence of dropsy, as well as its cause. With the help of such an analysis, the doctor will also be able to determine the degree of development of dropsy and the volume of the collected fluid. In the same way, you can identify the presence of concomitant diseases, for example, cysts in the seminiferous tubule, malignant or benign formation, inguinal hernia , etc.

Pediatric testis in newborn: treatment

As a rule, when diagnosing a similar disease in a newborn child, doctors do not take any radical measures. The first six months or a year you just need to regularly show the child to a urologist. In most cases, the ailment disappears by itself.

In the event that too much fluid accumulates in the testicles, and it begins to press on the shells of the organs, the doctor can prescribe a puncture. During this procedure, the fluid is artificially removed from the testicle.

If there is no improvement, surgical intervention is recommended. Do this procedure should be no later than the child will reach the age of two.
