Opel Kadett - German national car

Opel Cadet - a car with a historical past, the first copy of which was created in 1937 at the factory ADAM Opel in the German city of Rüsselsheim. The prototype was the stylish Olympia Opel - a compact subcompact in 1935.

Opel Kadett became a simplified copy of Olympia, its price was 2,100 German Reichsmarks - about $ 600. And since this cost was fixed, the Opel Cadet was declared a people's car. The machine could not be better suited to the standards of the German society and was successfully produced before 1940. Then the car factory in which shops Opel Kadett was going to, was transferred to manufacture of military production. Opel Blitz trucks, front-line transport vehicles began to descend from the conveyor.
Opel Cadet pre-war issue was a compact car without a roof with a leaning top. The body type "limousine" accommodated the driver and three passengers. In the open version, the car was considered a cabriolet. After the war, as a result of the reparation agreements, the production of the modified Opel Kadett under the Moskvich 401 brand started at the MZMA plant in Moscow. In Germany, the Cadet issue was resumed in 1947, with the production rates rapidly increasing, and over 180,000 cars were produced over 6 years. In 1953 production was stopped for reasons of an economic nature and resumed only in 1962.

The model Opel Kadett, reviews on which in the pre-war and the first post-war years were consistently positive, significantly changed. And it was in the spirit of the times. Opel 1962 was an example of modernity, the body became an all-metal type of two-door sedan with an insulated trunk. After the production of the new model of the Opel Cadet sedan was established, the designers began to develop the body of the station wagon.

In 1963, a new modification was launched in series production, and after the assembly of the sedan and station wagon was established, it became possible to make the third modification of the Opel Cadet with a coupe. The coupe version gave the car sportiness, its outlines, thanks to a low landing, became visually fast, dynamism appeared in the car's movement.

Opel Cadet was produced in three versions - sedan, station wagon and coupe - for two and a half years, until 1965. Then all the cars of the previous model line were upgraded again, production continued, the Opel Cadet brand was offered to the American automotive market. But in the US, a country with traditionally large limousines and Cadillacs, a small Opel Kadett was not adopted, the venture failed. But in all European countries, the Opel Cadet was steadily at one of the first places in the number of cars sold.

In 1973, the Opel Cadet S model was developed. The new machine was based on the international GM-T platform, which enabled car assembly in other countries. Opel Cadet began to be produced in Japan at the Isuzu Gemini factories, at the South Korean factory Daewoo and in the assembly shops of the English company Vauxhall Chevette. This spread of the German car, which has already become popular in many countries, has strengthened its reputation, raised the rating and commercial success. Currently, the Opel Cadet is not produced, it was replaced by cars of a new generation, such as Opel Astra, Korsa, Vectra and others.
