Diverticulosis of the sigmoid colon, diverticulosis of the large intestine

Diverticulosis of the large intestine.

There are diseases inherent in all age groups of people or only young. But there are pathologies, the frequency of fixation of which increases after 40 years. For example, diverticulosis of the large intestine.

Causes of diverticulosis

This diagnosis is made when there are a lot of acquired diverticula in the intestine of the patient, small bulging sites of mucous, similar to an inverted pocket. Diverticula can be congenital, but most often they appear during life under the influence of certain factors. Namely:

- Meals without sufficient fiber.

- Constant constipation, due not to the type of food, but the transferred and present diseases.

- Lack of physical activity.

- Overweight.

- Reduced strength of the intestinal wall.

- Hereditary predisposition (recognized not by all specialists).

Very well confirmed is the determination of precisely these reasons in comparison of the population of Western developed and Asian developing countries.

In the diet of Europeans, there is a lot of refined easily digestible food, which forms dense, heavily excreted body feces. In addition, the European population has a fairly passive lifestyle (especially in the elderly). Therefore, in half of people over 60 years of age there is divergence of the sigmoid colon and descending.

Residents of Asia remain active until old age. And the consumed products have more vegetable origin, that is, they are rich in fiber, which makes the feces soft (quickly excreted). Therefore, in Asian populations this type of bowel disease is very rare.

Localization and symptomatology

Diverticulosis of the colon affects most often the places of penetration of blood vessels in the direction of the mucosa (usually there are two parallel rows of diverticula). These surfaces have the least resistance against different types of impact. Apparently, therefore, diverticulosis of the sigmoid colon is most often observed.

Owners of diverticulum often do not know anything about it, since bulges are small in size, and, therefore, do not give any noticeable changes in the functioning of the intestine. Symptomatics is limited to periodic painful sensations that go away after gas withdrawal or toilet visits. Thus, these signs are taken as a banal swelling and enhanced gas formation.

Perhaps, it is not entirely correct to call these morphological changes of the intestine a disease without the presence of active symptoms. But there is another part of patients whose pathology is more active and the size of the diverticulum reaches a considerable size (up to 2.5 cm). Sometimes the bleeding of bulging places is not inflammatory. This is confirmed by the presence of blood in the feces and secreting it from the anus.

Moreover, defining the diverticulosis of the sigmoid colon and other departments as a disease, we make it possible to increase the number of cases of prevention of serious consequences in the form of diverticulitis, and in some cases, death.

Diverticulitis

Inflammation of bulging places of the intestine, like pinched pockets called diverticulitis. Its symptoms have the following symptoms:

- Pain sensations of different strength in the lower abdomen that do not pass after visiting the toilet.

- Pain concentrated in one place and lasting for several days.

- Increased pain during exercise, turning on a healthy side or pushing to the projection point on the abdomen.

- There may be fever, swelling, nausea, constipation, or diarrhea.

These symptoms can be observed in other equally serious diseases. In any case, you need immediate medical attention. After all, a diverticulum can break and the appearance of peritonitis.

Diagnosis, treatment and prevention

Diverticulosis of the sigmoid colon and other departments is diagnosed with the help of various laboratory studies of analyzes and hardware examinations (ultrasound and x-ray of the abdominal cavity organs, irrigoscopy and others).

The course of treatment for the considered pathologies of the large intestine is determined by the doctor on the basis of the results of the examination and other important circumstances (the complexity of the diseases, other major and chronic pathologies, and so on).

The main preventive measure against diverticulosis and its complications is the introduction into the diet of products with the necessary fiber content, as well as a healthy and active lifestyle.
