Types

Transmission lubricant, like motor, has three foundations.

  1. Mineral water.

  2. Semisynthetic.

  3. Synthetic.

Synthetics

This is the best oil for the gearbox. It has excellent fluidity. However, if the operating temperature changes are strong, the lubricant may cause leakage through the stuffing boxes. Especially it can concern car, having the big run.

The second - in seven groups, the most common of which are the GL-5 for moderate loads and the GL-4 for extreme driving.

Change of oil

Not all brands of cars gear oil is changing. In some expensive models, such a replacement is not provided by the manufacturer himself. Usually in new automatic boxes it is poured for the entire service life. In such machines, even a dipstick is not even provided to check the level of this lubricant.

The best oil for winter

Which gearbox oil should I choose in this case? It should be filled only what is prescribed by the manufacturer. If this is not known, they are guided by general recommendations.

So, at low temperatures, winter lubricants are used. They can be distinguished by the letter W, "winter", which means "winter". The most suitable option is the viscosity of 80W, 85W. An excellent option will be the all-weather 75W, which will not need to be changed in the warm season. Such oils almost do not change the viscosity to thirty degrees of frost.
