Radiator VAZ-2106: replacement of the element
The fuel-air mixture generates a huge amount of heat during combustion. Accordingly, for normal operation of the engine, a good heat sink is needed. This function is performed by the cooling radiator. VAZ-2106 is also equipped with them. But sometimes it happens that the part fails. How to determine the breakdown and replace this element yourself? Let's consider.
Why does this happen?
The main reason that the VAZ-2106 radiator has become unusable is leakage or breakdowns inside the element. If you notice that the level of antifreeze began to fall, and after a short parking under the machine a puddle with a liquid formed, most likely a breakdown occurred in the cooling system. It's not recommended to ride with such a malfunction. Some owners prefer to repair the old element with argon welding. But not in all cases it is possible (especially if it's a copper VAZ-2106 radiator ).
Instruments
What tools do we need to replace? To remove and install the radiator, we need a "10" head, an extension cord, a ratchet, a cross and a flat screwdriver. The presence of a viewing pit is not necessary.
Step 1 - merge antifreeze
The first step is to drain the old coolant. An important point - to produce coolant discharge is required only "on cold". If the car has just been driving recently, wait until the engine has cooled down. So, we set the car on a flat surface (you can with a slight inclination upwards). In the salon we cover the cock, which serves the antifreeze on the radiator of the heater. VAZ-2106 continues to stand still. After that, open the hood and unscrew the cap of the expansion tank. This is necessary in order to eliminate the vacuum in the system. Further we substitute capacity on 5-7 liters under a drain aperture. You can use an ordinary pelvis, as in the photo below.
Step 2 - dismantling the SOD fan assembly with the electric motor and the casing
This is an obligatory stage. How to extract this mechanism? For convenience, first remove the terminals and take out the battery. After that, disconnect the harness in the area of the left headlamp. We take out the power supply. We get the holders of the fan switch. To do this, squeeze the part with your fingers on the sides and remove it from the hole in the casing. We unscrew the bolts of the casing itself. The last element is extracted together with the fan outside (gets to the right upwards). Often it is contaminated, so cleaning it will be superfluous.
Step Three - remove the hinged
Now we need to extract all the hinged elements. So, we need to loosen the hose clamp of the expansion tank and the nozzles that go to the engine of the car.
Fill the antifreeze
Now it only remains to fill the system with a new coolant. To do this, unscrew the cap of the expansion tank and fill the antifreeze with a technological watering can. Try to dose the flow of fluid. Do not pour too much antifreeze at once - there is a risk of air bubbles. Also, to avoid venting the system, press down repeatedly on the bypass and outlet pipe.
Helpful Tips
It often happens that if you install a new radiator, VAZ-2106 starts to lose the antifreeze. And it follows not because of a breakdown, but because of poorly fixed nozzles. Experienced car owners recommend to handle the pipes with silicone sealant and install them on new yokes. By the way, the hoses themselves should not be hard or pinched. If so, it is better to replace them with new ones. Also, cracks on the nozzles are not allowed. The repair kit is inexpensive, so it is better to stock up with new items in advance. Also, during the replacement of the radiator, it is recommended to check the condition of the heat exchanger supports. If they are badly worn, replace them too.
What if the antifreeze became brown?
In addition to leaks, owners are faced with a phenomenon such as a discoloration of the coolant. What is the reason? Whether to change anew the radiator VAZ-2106? The reason is the low quality of the antifreeze.
