Roses Austin - flowers of English origin

Every time, seeing these flowers, I want to bend over to inhale the aroma that the roses exude . David Austin is a simple English farmer, and today the world-famous breeder has become the author of more than 190 new varieties of this stunningly beautiful flower. And today, at almost all exhibitions not only in England, but also around the world, the leading place is occupied by the roses that he has deduced.

Austin first took this activity as a hobby, trying to get new varieties from the already existing old English varieties. Their amazing beauty and unique smell, as David himself admitted, became a real delusion for him. But realizing that a single flowering is a big disadvantage, he aspired to get such a hybrid that would combine beauty, tenderness and the possibility of multiple flowering. The starting material was tea, French and damask roses. Austin had repeated multiple crossings, many times failed, and finally, in 1983, at an exhibition of flowers in Chelsea, what he had long dreamed of happened. People saw completely new varieties with a special aroma and a complex combination of color scales, while still reminiscent of the shape of the flower, the ancient English roses. Austin named them Mary Rose and Graham Thoma.

Description of the flower

The English roses of Austin have a rounded bush with beautifully arranged flowers on the whole surface, traditionally a "double" cup-shaped form. The height of these plants sometimes reaches two and a half meters with a width of the bush 120 centimeters. Roses bloom abundantly and continuously, until the frosts. On each branch there are on average up to five flowers.

Roses Austin - varieties frost-resistant and resistant to diseases. Their stems are prickly, covered with "leathery" foliage, which is not prone to powdery mildew, but sometimes it can be affected by spotting. But the most surprising thing is the corporate color, in which roses are painted. Austin received the most incredible shades of apricot: 190 kinds of amazing and unique colors. Until today, no breeder has been able to achieve such results.

Especially beautiful are Grace, Evelyn, Pat Austin and others, having more saturated in the center, and lighter colors to the periphery. When selecting the original varieties of roses, Austin paid much attention to their fragrance. And today his "pets" smell with five basic smells inherent in English varieties: fruit, tea, musk, rose oil and myrrh.

Cultivation

Agrotechnical peculiarities of growing Austin roses are quite simple, but they do not differ much from the growing conditions of others, although they have their own nuances. They touch the depth of planting, feeding and shelter for the winter. The pit for them is digged deeper than for the usual ones, Approximately 20 centimeters, and covered with mixed in half with chernozem humus, compost, peat and sand. This provides power to the flowers. The well is well filled with water.

In warm spring months, bushes of English roses should be planted or priteny at landing. Top dressing of roses is simple enough: in the spring, under the bushes, compost or complex fertilizer is scattered . This procedure repeats after the appearance of the first flowers. Starting with the fifteenth of July, it is better not to feed roses of Austin in the Russian climate, in order not to adjust their growth.
