Salvia sage - care

A few thousand years ago the oak tree sage was considered a magical plant, capable of bewitching, arousing sympathy and even love. Currently, anyone can plant and grow this plant on their site, and it is valued solely because of its medicinal properties.

Sage leaves contain organic acids, phytoncides, alkaloids. They are used in medicine and cooking. It is very easy to prepare sage leaves: they are collected, dried in a dark cool place and stored in a dry place.

There are three ways of breeding sage: seeds, seedlings and bush division.

The plant is well adapted to winter, undemanding to the soil in which it grows, however, it is preferable for it to still fertile wet lands.

Despite its useful properties, the oak wood sage is quite decorative and at the same time very light-loving. These features should be considered when choosing a site for planting.

When growing sage from seeds, it is recommended to pre-soak them in a growth stimulant (for example, "Energen"). To sustain seeds in a solution follows about day, then slightly to dry and sow in pots.

Planting in the soil is performed by sprouting seeds, which are placed in well-poured small grooves.

The main care for the sage is to conduct systematic propolok, loosening the soil and regular watering.

Salvia oatmeal must be fed every spring, using organic fertilizers for this. In one place the plant can grow up to 7 years.

Three-year-old flowers rejuvenate sometime in April. To do this, cut off the shoots, leaving about 15 centimeters from the soil level. Thanks to this, the bushiness of the sage increases.

Salvia oakgrass differs from its counterparts in a more delicate aroma and distinctive flowering. The plant begins to bloom in the first year, approximately in the middle of July. In the second year of life, the oak tree sage (photos are shown) blooms a much longer period of time, beginning in June and blooming only in August.

In addition to medicinal properties, this kind of sage is very often used in the decoration of flower beds and other group plantings.

Sage preparation is done in the morning, always in dry weather, during the flowering period of the plant.

Having amazing medicinal properties, sage is an absolutely unpretentious plant. It is so winter-hardy that it does not require additional shelter for the winter. Moreover, it is practically not susceptible to diseases and very resistant to various pests.

Sage is very easy to self-seed, after the first flowers bloom on the peduncles, seeds are formed.

And its decorative properties really surprise. Sage looks amazing with roses and geraniums. Its bright purple little flowers very nicely set off the delicate pastel colors of roses.
