The flower of ivan-da-marya: plants in our forests

The flower of ivan-da-marya (or marjannik dubravny) is an annual herbaceous plant with a lowered stem, whose height varies from 16 to 61 cm. Thanks to the light yellow flowers collected in spicate inflorescences, many poets and painters paid attention to this ornamental plant . The flower of ivan-da-marya, the photo of which occurs quite often, is considered to be an excellent honey-bearing because of abundant nectar discharge, and its seeds are a good food for forest game. You can meet this plant in artisanal thickets, forest glades and hills in the European part of Russia.

Color palette of the plant

The flower of ivan-da-marya can look different. This is due to the fact that under one name several plants are combined, the flowers of which have two colors, sharply differing from each other (mostly yellow and blue or purple). We have a Mariannik in five types: split, forest, meadow, field and oak forest. It is worth noting the great similarity of the flower of ivan-da-marya with marjanik meadow. The difference is in the absence of violet leaves in the meadow. There is such a plant in coniferous forests, in spite of what is called "meadow".

Mariannik

Mariannik of water and carbon dioxide creates organic substances. But because the plant can exist as a parasite, it can receive additional substances: the marjannik is sucked to the root of another plant and extracts useful substances from there. And since the flower exists on its own, it is a semi-parasite.

Therapeutic effect of the Marjannik of the oak forest

It is worth noting that the plant is poisonous, so it must be used with extreme caution. It contains alkaloids, glucoside melompyrites, and seeds have glucoside rinatin, which is highly toxic. Symptoms of seed poisoning are weakening of the heart, drowsiness and general weakness. To date, the plant is used only in the framework of traditional medicine, and only those flowers that were harvested at the time of flowering are taken. The fruits of the plant and the grass itself are also used. The harvesting time is July-September, the herbs are May-September. Dry it in the shade in a ventilated area or in the fresh air. Infusion should be used with scrofula (both internally and externally), as well as in cases of scabies or with various rashes (apply externally). A shredded grass can be used to accelerate the healing of wounds. Decoction of the ground part should be drunk in hypertensive, heart diseases, epilepsy, stomach diseases and many other ailments.
