How to connect a chandelier to a double switch: detailed instructions

Chandelier is a set of single-lamp fixtures, assembled in one original design. It is not only the decoration of the room, but also a powerful source of lighting. The maximum mode of operation of the chandelier is not used so often (mostly - at family celebrations, etc.). Most of the time, the lamp works in an economical mode (when not all lamps are included, but only part of them), while the level of illumination does not cause a feeling of discomfort in a person. The operating modes are controlled by a double switch.

Next, consider how to connect the chandelier to a double switch. How is the circuit of the lamp assembled? Knowing the basic principles will give you a deeper insight into how to connect the chandelier to a double switch. So, the scheme. As a rule, three wires emerge from the chandelier. One of them has a black color - it's a zero working wire. It is attached to the threaded parts (side lobes) of all cartridges. Two other wires are phase conductors that are connected to the central contacts (tongues) of cartridges, each to its own group. Sometimes the fourth wire, colored in yellow with green stripes, is also a protective conductor. It is attached to the metal parts of the lamp. How to connect a chandelier to a double switch in case it is already installed? In this situation it remains to connect the wires coming out of the chandelier, with the conductors coming out of the ceiling. In this case, it is necessary to determine the phase and neutral conductors to which the luminaire will be connected. The phase conductors can be determined using a voltage indicator. To do this, both switches must be turned on and the voltage on the wires coming out of the ceiling must be checked. On two wires the indicator will show the presence of voltage, on the third - absence. This third one is the zero worker. It connects to the zero conductor of the chandelier (black). Two phase conductors are connected to the phase wires of the chandelier in any sequence. The connection must be made using a terminal block or a terminal strip at the terminals.

Setting the switch

How to connect a chandelier to a double switch, if it is not already installed? Usually, to the place of its installation, three wires are connected. One wire is supplied with voltage, and the other two are connected to a chandelier. The switch itself has three terminal connections. One of them is generic, and the other two are turned off or connected to the common with the help of keys. The wire, through which the voltage is applied to the switch (phase), is connected to the common contact (it is determined by means of the voltage indicator). The other two wires are to the remaining switch terminals in any sequence.

What to do if you need an extra wire

Often happens that on a chandelier and on the switch there are only two wires (usually such wiring exists in old buildings). In this case, a reasonable question arises as to how to connect a chandelier to a double switch in this situation. To do this, simply pull the additional wire between the switch and the chandelier. It should have a cross section of not less than the existing wires.

If necessary, connect the chandelier to two one- button switches. How to connect a chandelier to two switches, can be easily understood by examining the above material. In this case, the incoming phase conductor is connected to the second switch contact by a loop.

Connecting a chandelier to a double switch or just a switch requires compliance with safety measures. To do this, you must disconnect the voltage from the work site.
