The capital of USA. Population, climate, architecture.

Washington is the capital of the United States, an independent territory, officially called the District of Columbia. Not included in any of the states. This beautiful city is named after the first US ruler, George Washington.

The capital of the USA, Washington is located on the bank of the big Potomac River, in the southwest it borders on the state of Virginia, and on the other side - with the state of Maryland. Here there are representations of the three branches of power (the White House), as well as many national museums and monuments. The city also has 170 embassies, the headquarters of the currency and World Bank, the organization of the Americas, the development bank and the health organization.

The US capital is located in a subtropical wet zone. Autumn and spring are warm, winter is cool with an annual snowfall. Every four to five years, Washington is affected by snowstorms. Summer is humid and hot. The combination of strong humidity and high temperature brings frequent strong thunderstorms, some of which lead to a devastating tornado.

According to the census, 50 percent of African Americans, 39 percent of Whites, 3 percent of Asians and 1 percent of Native Americans live in Washington. Architecture and styles

Washington - the capital of the United States - is a city with a stunning architecture. The main creator of the city's image was Langfang Pierre, an architect and engineer of French origin. Subsequently, Langfang was dismissed because of disagreements, and Ellicott Andrew was appointed in his place. But in the early twentieth century, despite the plans of the great architects to create a beautiful city with numerous green alleys, slums began to grow in disorder in the streets of the capital. Also there was a first railway station. The law on the height of structures was adopted, which limited the high-rise buildings. The tallest building in Washington is a monument, and the largest on the square is the shopping and entertainment center of Ronald Reagan.

In the city there are six objects from the list of the most beautiful buildings in the US: Washington Cathedral, White House, Capitol, Jefferson Memorial, Veterans Memorial and Lincoln Memorial. These structures are characterized by the following architectural styles: the Neo-Greek, the neoclassical, the Georgian, the modern and the Neo-Gothic.

More diverse architectural styles of buildings outside the center of this wonderful city. Here you can see historical monuments in the style of the Bozar, in Victorian architecture or in Georgian style. The oldest architectural area is located in Georgetown, in the oldest area of Washington. For example, the "Old Stone House" was built in 1765. This building is one of the oldest in the city. Numerous houses next to it reflect the Victorian era.
