Puff after puncture

Many people complain of swollen tongue after a puncture. Photo piercing you can see below. In this case, this phenomenon is not a malfunction in the body.

Piercing traumatizes the tongue, so increasing it in size is quite a natural process. It is important after the puncture to comply with all the recommendations of the doctor, in time to do the rinses, keep the mouth clean and make sure that there are no purulent formations.

If within a week the edema did not disappear or new inflammations appeared, then it makes sense to go to the hospital. Normally, the swelling should go away within 5-7 days, and discomfort sensations can occur about two weeks after the puncture.

Simultaneous swelling of the tongue and lips

If the tumor has spread to the lips, this indicates that allergy is manifested. As soon as contact occurs with the stimulus, the tongue swells. The process can happen in a matter of minutes. In this case, quick and coordinated actions are necessary. It is necessary to call an ambulance, because there is very little time, if you do not take appropriate measures quickly, the patient will begin to suffocate. While the patient is waiting for the doctor's arrival, contact with the allergen should be excluded, if known.

If, in addition to the swelling of the tongue and lips, the throat swells , the patient should be taken to the hospital as soon as possible. This indicates the worst manifestation of an allergic reaction - anaphylactic shock. Especially dangerous condition is supported by such symptoms as difficulty with breathing and ingestion.

Treatment of swollen tongue

If the causes of swelling of the tongue do not need to call an ambulance, then the treatment will depend on the prerequisites of swelling. So, to facilitate the patient's condition, it is necessary to take such measures:

  • If the swelling is caused by a mechanical trauma, then it passes by itself. You should only keep the mouth clean and avoid spicy food.
  • If the cause of the swelling is glossitis, then you should consult your doctor to prescribe the necessary antibiotics.
  • If the edema is caused by an infection, then it should not be a symptom, but the cause of the tumor. After the disappearance of the disease, the consequences will be lost on their own.
  • If you have thyroid problems, you should go to the hospital to be registered. The tumor will pass as soon as you start treatment.
  • If you have genetic diseases, then you need to treat not the cause, but the symptoms. The doctor will prescribe the appropriate medications to relieve swelling.
  • When the cause is a malignant tumor, you need to visit an oncologist.

There are many folk remedies for the removal of the tumor. Remember that they are all suitable only if the cause of the edema is trauma, and a small one. Then, to eliminate symptoms, rinse your mouth with a decoction of chamomile, calendula or sage. Also, these drugs are suitable for treating swollen tongue after tooth extraction. But in any case, do not rinse your mouth with a hot decoction, it will not only increase pain, but also lead to the fact that the injury will become deeper and more dangerous.

First aid

If in your presence a person's tongue is swollen to such an extent that it is difficult for him to breathe, then you need to take such actions for first aid:

  • Call an ambulance.
  • Give the patient antihistamines.
  • Slightly raise the patient's head so that it does not choke.

After the ambulance arrives, the doctor will take appropriate measures and prescribe the treatment. Before this, you need to act quickly, clearly and consistently, because the patient can suffocate in minutes.

Thus, swollen tongue can talk about dangerous diseases that can not be ignored. The best solution is to contact the doctor, but if you are sure that this phenomenon is caused by insignificant reasons, then the treatment can be done independently.
