Floor duropolymer plinth: advantages and installation

The final touch in the finish of the premises is the installation of a skirting board. He plays not only a functional, but also a decorative role in the interior. This useful element allows you to give a neat and complete view of the floor covering around the perimeter of the entire room, to hide the wiring, to close and decorate the joints of the floor and wall coverings, protecting them from dirt and moisture and thus preventing the proliferation of pathogens.

As for the material, today you can find on the market products made of wood, plastic and MDF. However, the plinth of dyuropolymer has been gaining in popularity lately. This type of plastic, as well as its products, appeared on the building materials market relatively recently - about 11 years ago.

What is a duropolymer?

Duropolymer - a modern, environmentally friendly material, made of expanded polystyrene under high pressure and temperature. Products from this polymer have a density of 360 to 400 kg / m 3 . Due to this plinth of duropolymer can be installed in areas of increased friction. The material is resistant to mechanical damage and other influences. Floor plinth of duropolymer can not be damaged by chairs, tables and other furniture.

According to reviews, plinths of duropolymer are not inferior in strength to analogues made from selected oak wood. Such products do not crack, they are resistant to moisture and do not lend themselves to decay. Mounted with glue and self-tapping screws. When painting, you can use any decorative paint. Inside the dyeropolymeric plinths there is a channel for electrical wiring.

Not so long ago, plinths appeared in the Russian market, in which charcoal is present, thanks to which the weight of the product is only 200 kg / m 3 , and this without detriment to the quality (i.e., the basic performance characteristics remained at the same level).

Strengths

The advantages of a duropolymer include:

  • High density in comparison with polyurethane;
  • Resistance to mechanical stress;
  • Ecological compatibility;
  • No reaction to temperature changes in the room;
  • Simple installation in a short time;
  • Resistance to repeated staining;
  • High moisture resistance;
  • Ease in care and processing (cutting, creating corner joints);
  • Absence of linear and transverse shrinkage;
  • Excellent value for money.

Duropolymeric products approximately one-and-a-half or two times heavier than polyurethane. But they are more shockproof. Due to this, they can be used together with interior parts that are susceptible to friction - window apertures and door jambs.

Ways of installation

There are two ways to install a plinth of duropolymer:

  • Mounting on self-tapping screws;
  • Fixation by glue.

The first variant of fastening is preferable, because the possibility of subsequent dismantling of the products without harm to their appearance is completely eliminated when installed on a construction adhesive . If the installation is done with self-tapping screws, then, if desired, the panels can be removed easily and quickly, and then put them back.

Mounting on self-tapping screws

To install a plinth on self-tapping screws, you need:

  • Make the necessary measurements of the wall and duropolymeric products using a tape measure;
  • Prepare corner joints - cut edges of slats at an angle of 45 °, using a stool;
  • Attach the bar to the wall, make holes through every 30-35 cm;
  • Lay dyro-polymer products aside and drill the corresponding holes in the wall, plug them with dowels;
  • Fix the bar to the wall with self-tapping screws;
  • Disguise the mounting holes with decorative patches.

Installation on glue

The installation of plinth from duropolymer on glue assumes the following actions;

  • The walls and bars were measured;
  • Cutting profiles into pieces corresponding to the length of the walls;
  • Cutting one edge at an angle of 45 ° for docking;
  • Degreasing the inner surface of the plinth by means of a special composition;
  • Application of adhesive composition to the plane, which will later be adjacent to the wall and floor covering;
  • Fixing the bar to the bearing surfaces after a certain holding time, necessary for better setting and indicated on the glue pack.

You need to glue the product to both the wall and the floor. If you attach the skirting only to the wall, then under it will be clogged with dirt, dust and moisture, which will lead to the development of fungi and mold.

Staining

The floor and ceiling plinths of duropolymer perfectly tolerate reusable staining with paints based on acrylic or an aqueous dispersion of polymers. Before applying the color mixture, the bar is best primed. It is more convenient to apply paint to the products prior to installation: this eliminates the need for additional protection for the floor and walls.

The dye composition should be applied with a narrow brush with elastic and dense pile. To during the procedure on the surface of the strip does not leave strips from the brush, you need to use thick dyes or apply a composition of two or even three layers.
