Tips for choosing a gun for spearfishing

Many fishermen face the problem of choosing an effective gun for underwater hunting. And this is not surprising, because the market today is full of products from a variety of manufacturers.

Let's figure out what types of weapons for spearfishing are available to amateurs of fishing, try to identify the optimal solutions for use in certain conditions.

Pneumatic guns for underwater hunting

The weapons of this category are quite complex. The main functional element of the pneumathes is a vacuum barrel along which the piston moves. The latter serves as a detail, which is responsible for the departure of the harpoon. In the kit there is a special pump, which ensures the filling of the reservoir of the vacuum barrel with compressed air.

Many pneumatic models have a combat regulator. The presence of the mechanism allows the hunter to determine the optimal force of the shot, depending on the existing conditions.

Among the advantages of pneumatics can be noted decent power and impressive punching ability. The minuses are:

  • Oscillations of the barrel when shot;
  • Probability of breakage of functional elements of the structure as a result of sand contamination;
  • High cost;
  • The need to use a pump to pressurize the vacuum system.

Crossbows for spearfishing

The principle of operation of such weapons is based on the operation of elastic links that push the harpoon into the water column. The more massive and shorter such "gum", the higher the deadly force of a crossbow.

An obvious advantage of such adaptations for underwater hunting is the absence of the effect of "throwing a trunk" during a shot. In addition, the design does not provide for complex piston mechanisms, which also speaks in favor of crossbows.

The minus of weapons of this category are impressive size. This feature makes hunting in enclosed ponds somewhat difficult and makes crossbows effective only in clean, transparent water bodies.

Primary requirements

What are the qualities of good rifles for underwater hunting? When buying, use the following tips:

  1. It is better to give preference to models that are particularly simple in design. Shotguns, in the structure of which there are no complex parts and mechanisms, are slower to fail, and if they are exposed to breakdowns, it is much easier to restore their working capacity.
  2. The less impact the weapon has for spearfishing, the easier it is to get into a mobile target. Reduced returns are observed in rifles, where the handle is displaced towards the axis of the harpoon.
  3. Selecting guns for spearfishing is necessary, given the fact that swimming often occurs between plants and snags, overcoming the current. Proceeding from this, the purchase of the overall weapon is absolutely not welcome.
  4. Comfortable operation is facilitated by the choice of the most light and floating gun. The presence of the latter quality allows you to release weapons from the hands while catching prey, without fear that the product will irretrievably go to the bottom of the reservoir.
  5. Do not underestimate the noise level during operation of the submersible rifle mechanism.
  6. An important criterion is the overall ease of operation of the rifle. There are several requirements at the same time: simplicity of charging, the availability of a comfortable handle, the obedient operation of the descent, the possibility of easy removal of the spoil from the harpoon.

Price list

How many are the spearguns? Prices for such weapons in the domestic market start at about 50 euros. For the most advanced models, fishing enthusiasts will have to pay around 1200 euros. However, the purchase of an expensive, highly functional gun looks absolutely inappropriate for novice hunters. Because the result of fishing under the water largely depends on experience.
