Flag of Malaysia: description, meaning and history

Each country is proud of its symbols. The flag of Malaysia is not an exception - the standard accepted in 1963 is even called the "Glorious Striped". Together with the coat of arms and the anthem, it is called upon to emphasize sovereignty.

Modern look

The flag of Malaysia, photos of which many travelers who are interested in the countries of Asia saw, is a traditional rectangular cloth. His sides are related to each other in the proportion of two to one. The panel is covered with horizontal strips of fourteen pieces. In turn, alternate red and white. They symbolize thirteen states, of which the state consists, and the government of the country. The red strip is located on top, and the cloth is finished white. On the top, along the width of eight lanes, there are blue wings. It shows a golden crescent and a star with fourteen rays, which has a similar meaning to the bands. This is a sign of unity of power and thirteen states. In addition, the crescent is an Islamic symbol, which indicates the religion of the majority of the inhabitants of the country.

Value of colors

Prior to the acquisition of sovereignty in 1963, the flag of Malaysia did not exist. The country belonged to Great Britain, being its colony. This explains the choice of shades for the cloth. The flag of Malaysia uses white, blue and red - just like the flag of the United Kingdom.

History of appearance

The first steps towards the creation of the state cloth were made in 1949. Then the national competition for the best project was announced. The winner was an architect named Johor Mohammed ben Hamza. He worked in the government. As a basis, Johor decided to take the banner used by the British ships participating in the East India campaign.

In the original project, the English flag was placed on the roof. This option was approved by King George Six, and the cloth began to be used since the 1950s. After gaining independence, a modern version was installed. On the roof appeared a star with fourteen rays. The name "Glorious Striped" appeared not so long ago, although it is used at the moment very widely. He was awarded the cloth in 1997. Then the Prime Minister solemnly announced at the Independence Day that the flag now has an official name.

The Navy uses a different cloth. It is white, the flag of Malaysia is placed on the roof, and a blue anchor is drawn from the bottom, behind which are two sabers.
