Zinc in the products. Benefit and harm

According to the content in the human body, zinc is given the second place after iron. In the body we have about three grams of this unique substance. In general, zinc is localized in the kidneys, liver and spleen, muscles and bone tissue. In addition, this micronutrient is found in a significant amount in hair and skin, eyes, prostate gland in men, in the fingers of our limbs. Zinc is in relationship with three hundred enzymes! Scientists have already proven that most of the inhabitants of our planet are experiencing a shortage of this mineral.

It is not for nothing that people believe that products with zinc are able to rejuvenate the human body, it is zinc that can influence the state of the human body at the cellular level.

Zinc in foods helps maintain our body in tone, but if there is a shortage of it, which happens rarely, it can be immediately identified by the following signs:

  • Retardation of development;
  • Long-term healing of wounds;
  • Decreased appetite ;
  • hair loss;
  • The male population has hypogonadism;
  • The reduction in the severity of feelings such as smell and taste;
  • Propensity to infectious diseases;
  • Formation of white spots on nail plates;
  • Decreased vision in the dark.

At the same time, an excessive amount of a trace element, like zinc, does not lead to good either:

  • Increased cholesterol;
  • The absorption of copper and iron decreases;
  • Disturb intestinal colic;
  • diarrhea;
  • Nausea followed by vomiting;
  • Impaired liver function, kidney function;
  • A state of coma;
  • death.

That's why you need to know what products contain zinc, and how much.

Products enriched with zinc.

These include mainly products of animal origin. Zinc in products of vegetable origin is also contained, but its bioavailability is so low that it is practically not used by our body.

Zinc is extremely rich in seafood, such as shrimp, oysters and mussels. Take, for example, an oyster. It is able to meet the daily need of an adult in zinc for seventy percent!

In mushrooms, beans and lentils, buckwheat, nuts and sprouted wheat grains, zinc is also present, but it is extremely poorly digested.

Zinc in products in mg (per hundred grams):

  • Oysters (fresh) - from 45 to 75;
  • Wheat sprouts, bran - from 13 to 16;
  • Mussels - 21;
  • Nuts (Brazilian) -7;
  • Meat (red) - from 4.5 to 8.5;
  • Cheese (Cheddar) - 4;
  • Hazelnuts (hazelnuts) - 3.5;
  • Peas - 4;
  • Eggs (yolk) - 3.5;
  • Meat dark (chicken) - 2.85;

  • Shrimp -1.15;
  • Lentils - 3.1.

Zinc in products, if there is a shortage of it, is supplemented with the use of pastilles (biologically active additives) containing this trace element. They contribute to the prevention of infectious diseases, stimulate the immune system, improve sexual maturation and reproductive work of male organs, help in the synthesis of protein and are involved in the formation of tissues (connective, for example).

I want to note the fact that the Egyptians even five thousand years ago knew the secret of zinc, preparing from it an ointment for healing wounds and curing skin diseases.

Despite all the positive qualities, scientists from Singapore (Nanyang University) convincingly ask all buyers to be cautious in the choice of products, preliminarily study the composition for the content of zinc. Scientific research in recent years has shown that zinc oxide can increase the risk of cancer. The results of the research can be found in the journal Biomaterials.

The nanoparticles into which zinc oxide is converted can damage DNA by penetrating into human cells. Thanks to the protein p53, these damaged cells are not converted into cancer cells.

Conclusions, of course contradictory, but zinc in products and its normal content so far only brought human benefit.
