Water-emulsion paint: technical characteristics, manufacturers, composition

For industrial and artistic painting of walls, ceilings, the floor of the room, furniture in it, as well as window and door structures, paint based on aqueous emulsion is most often used. Water-based paint, whose technical characteristics provide a stable and high-quality coating, is highly ecological and does not have a toxic effect on living organisms.

Principles of the formation of the protective composition of water-based paint

The name of water-based (water-dispersion) paint is due to the presence in its aqueous basis of a suspension of pigments, which together form an emulsion. Dispersed elements are not mixed with the aqueous medium, but are created and exist with it in parallel.

Thus, the water-based paint consists of a filler, a thickener, a latex and an antiseptic.

Polymer particles after the drying of water on the surface form an even layered layer. The dried paint is easily removed by hand, and its layer does not have an unpleasant smell. The paint is resistant to mechanical stress, but it is not applied to metal surfaces to avoid corrosion due to the presence of constant moisture.

Main technical characteristics of water-based paint

Water-based paint, whose technical characteristics - viscosity, flow rate, specific gravity and drying time, have stable production parameters, it is optimally suited for the treatment of internal surfaces of living quarters.

The degree of dilution of the coloring mass with water is indicated by the viscosity index measured with a viscometer.

Consumption of emulsion paint directly depends on the absorbing capacity of the receiving surface and is from 100 to 200 milliliters per square meter of surface, painted with a layer of paint one millimeter thick.

The specific gravity of the water-based paint is about 1.3 kilograms per liter.

The drying time of the water-based paint depends on the humidity and air temperature and ranges from two hours to a day. The optimum drying conditions are considered to be +20 degrees Celsius and 65% humidity.

The expiration date of the emulsion paint depends more on the storage conditions (ideally - a cool dark place) and is on the average 24 months.

Characteristics of water-dispersion paint are fully reflected in the GOST 28196-89 data.

Technical characteristics according to GOST

The water-based paint, the technical characteristics (GOST) of which are registered under number 28196-89, is called in it a water-dispersion paint, represented by suspensions of pigments and fillers, enclosed in an aqueous dispersion of synthetic polymers, in which various auxiliary substances such as emulsifier, stabilizer and Other.

GOST 28196-89 replaced obsolete GOST 19214-80, GOST 20833-75, TU 6-10-1260-87, TU 6-10-2031-85, TU 6-10-2054-86, TU 6-10-2081 -86, concerning paint and varnish materials. All water-dispersion paints are fire-safe, and their production and operation are possible only in the supply-ventilated rooms.

According to GOST, their transportation and storage must be carried out in sealed containers at a temperature above 0 degrees, but a short-term temperature reduction of -40 degrees within one month is allowed.

The water-emulsion paint, whose technical characteristics provide its light-reflecting properties, undergoes the determination of light fastness at the factory - the experimental section is placed under a special lamp for 24 hours, then for 2 hours in total darkness, and then compared with expert samples.

Features of the use of water-dispersion paint VEAC

Water-based paint VEAK, technical characteristics of which are one of the most necessary for safe and quick work in the space of living quarters, is optimally adapted for house repairs.

It has a white color and a set of additional pigments, with which you can get any desired color.

In each case, the surfaces to be painted must be perfectly smooth and dry - in such conditions, the VACC consumption will be less than 150 grams per square meter. It is excellent to lie down on old and already painted surfaces, because it has a latex base and dries up within 4 hours.

Since WEAK is a water-based acrylic paint, technical characteristics allow it to be diluted with water, but not more than 10 percent of the base volume. Do not use chemical diluents. The properties of the paint make it possible to wash the surfaces painted with warm water, but the tools should be cleaned immediately after the work is finished.

Under optimal conditions, the painted surface does not lose color and strength for 7 years.

Features of the use of polyvinyl acetate paint

Similar in quality and duration of operation, as well as the application mechanism is polyvinyl acetate water-based paint, the technical characteristics of which allow it to be used in painting not only the interior surfaces of the building, but also cardboard, plywood, drywall and wood.

Polyvinyl acetate paint is fireproof, but extremely afraid of temperature differences and high humidity. This paint is water-emulsion, the technical characteristics of which allow it to be used for finishing the surface, and thanks to which it completely dries in two hours.

The consumption of polyvinyl acetate emulsion paint is about 200 milliliters per square meter, it is necessary to superimpose it in several layers to paint the spots. The higher consumption and the specific composition make it more expensive in comparison with other types of paints .

Specific features of water-based paint "Tex"

When choosing the type and firm of the paint and varnish product, you should also pay attention to the water-based paint "Tex". It is a silicone-modified viscous liquid acrylate base, is characterized by a white gloss, a moderate flow and ease of application. For it, a full range of colors is produced.

Water-based paint "Tex", the technical characteristics of which allow it to be applied to brick, concrete, wooden surfaces, used for the treatment of walls and ceilings; It forms on the plane a practical matte film that allows air to circulate freely between the thickness of the paint and the surface material. However, the main and obvious drawback of Tex paint is its heat sensitivity - air in the room when using it should be warmer than +5 degrees Celsius.

General principles of care and cleaning of surfaces coated with water-dispersion paint

Any water-based paint is washable; The technical characteristics of this paint allow not only to easily and quickly apply the material on a vertical or horizontal surface with a roller and brush, but also after a long time wipe this surface with a damp cloth.

To clean building tools and clothes from such a paint, soap foam (for polyvinyl acetate suspensions) is also used; Acrylic emulsion paint should first be damaged with a spatula - for greater removal speed, the desired area of the painted surface is first pasted with paper or newspapers, planting them on gelatinous starch or ordinary wallpaper glue.

It is possible to clean the surface areas from acrylic paint by using a construction hair dryer and a spatula - by burning fragments of the surface and removing them with a blade.

Chemical solvents are also suitable for removing water-based paints, with a gradual destructive effect, but they produce an unpleasant odor and are toxic to the body.

Some recommendations on the use of water-dispersion paints

Before working with water-based paint, you must align, plaster and, if necessary, zashpatlevat all surfaces. Despite the ecological compatibility of the paint, you still need to prepare protective glasses, a respirator and gloves for work.

The can of paint is shaken, its contents are mixed and diluted with water according to the instructions. On the painted walls, paint is applied in three layers, on wallpaper - in one. The paint is applied in parallel strips from the window to the wall. Brushes, rollers, spatulas and spray guns are used as application tools.
