Thuya. Care and planting

To date, there are more than a hundred varieties of such a coniferous tree as thuya. All of them are distinguished by the color of the needles and the structure of the crown. It should be noted that special care does not require special care, it can grow absolutely on any soil, but the rate of its growth depends on the place of disembarkation. So, this tree will develop faster on moistened fertile soil, in a place where there are no winds. It can grow both on the sunny side and in the penumbra, but the shadow of the thuja does not tolerate, from this its crown often thinens and loses its decorative properties.

This plant is well tolerated by pruning, so it's easy to form a crown without much difficulty. Usually it is shaped like a pyramid or a ball, as well as a spiral or column.

Tui care requires an elementary. It should be remembered that the needles of the tree evaporates a large amount of moisture, so it is necessary to constantly maintain the soil moisture. Depending on the size of the seedlings, at first watering can take up to fifty buckets of water, while watering the plant once a week, watering also the crown. This helps to open the stomata of the leaves, so the plant breathes better.

Thus, in the garden chernozem and with a good moistening, on a semi-shaded or sunny place, thuya forms a chic crown. A dry chernozem and an arrangement in the shade contribute to the loss of ornamentality of the plant: its color changes, the needles become faded, the crown becomes thinner, a large number of cones appears. On heavy soils, it is necessary to make a drainage layer of twenty centimeters, and on marshes - to lay pipes in trenches. In doing so, during transplantation, care should be taken to ensure that an earthen lump is present around the roots.

In the period of active vital activity, thuya care requires the following: the soil must necessarily be loosened to a depth of ten centimeters without damaging the roots of the plant. And that they do not freeze in the winter and do not dry out in the summer, you need to trim the trunks with straw, peat, bark or manure. And that the plant has not received sunburn, it is covered in the first three years. And if the tree is sufficiently tall, its branches are pulled together with twine for the winter so that the crown does not break under the pressure of the snow. In spring, thuju are fed with nitroammon or complex fertilizers. In this case, in the case of fertilization during planting, the first fertilizing should be carried out only after a few years.

Care for the tuja assumes its annual pruning. At the same time, dry shoots are removed and the crown is formed. Pruning is performed in autumn or spring. Cropped shoots can serve as cuttings for subsequent landing in the ground. But the best approach is for this branch, which is severely torn from the tree.

This coniferous plant multiplies both by seeds and vegetatively. In this case seeds are used in the case when the decorative properties of thuja are not needed. Young cuttings are easily rooted. In this case, the pits are excavated up to eighty centimeters deep, covered with a mixture of earth, peat and sand, adding nitroammophoska. Trees are planted at a distance of up to five meters from each other.

Every spring, tuya care requires the following: dry branches are cut and burned, and the tree is treated with a fungicide in order to prevent the development of a fungal disease. When cracks appear on the trunk, it is necessary to cover them with a garden crock and well to remove the cracked bark so that the wounds heal.

Thus, plants of the Tui genus include six species of coniferous trees (shrubs) with flat shoots and scaly pine needles. These plants live up to one hundred and fifty years, and some specimens and more. They are planted in parks, on alleys, used to create gardens and hedges and, so-called, live curbs.

Knowing how the plant grows, planting and caring for which do not make much effort, you can create a beautiful hedge or garden.
