Flowers, appearing in the spring, are especially desired and loved throughout the world. Their bright beauty gives us a real holiday after the cold winter days. Among them, without a doubt, is the lilac, a photo of which can be seen on greeting cards for the first spring holidays.

Lilac is widely used in the greening of urban parks and parks, like its gardeners and gardeners. In Lebanon, Greece, Cyprus, its name is consonant with the holiday of Easter. And in Rochester, Hamilton, Boston and other cities, festivals are held every year that are dedicated to this magnificent plant.

Today there are more than 30 kinds of lilac in the world . Thanks to the work of breeders, new varieties of amazing plants appear. The theme of our article will be Meyer's lilac - an exquisite plant, compact, very beloved in our country. This is a group of small shrubs, which is united by a common name - "balcony series".

Lilac Meyer: description

Compact bushes of this plant do not exceed 1.5 meters. Its branches are painted in a gray-brown color, the bark with small cracks. Young shoots have a dark-brown tinge. The leaves are elliptical, wide, with a length of two to four centimeters. At the apex they narrow, the base is wedge-shaped, with tiny "cilia" along the edge. Their upper part is dark green, the lower part is slightly lighter, the leaves along two veins, which go from the base parallel to the edges, are pubescent.

Lilac Meyer has an exquisite delicate aroma. Flowers are collected in erect inflorescences. Their length is up to 10 cm. The plant is undemanding to soils, successfully develops even on poor soils, reconciles with moderate watering. Practically does not suffer from frost.

Plant fragrant bushes better groups, in the form of hedges, although single plantings on the flowerbed look very impressive.

Top dressing

The lilac, the photo of which you can see in this article, is very responsive to the feeding. Two such procedures a year are enough for it. In spring, through melting snow, the bushes feed the first time and after flowering the second. If the chemical analysis of soil on the site is not carried out, it is better to use ready-made fertilizers (complex) for flowering shrubs. Today they are offered in large numbers by specialized trading organizations.

Lilac Meyer is resistant to many diseases. Sometimes it can be affected by viruses. The first two years before wintering, the young bushes are covered with material, the trunks should be mulched with foliage or peat.

Reproduction

Varietal plants, which include Mayer's lilacs, propagate by cuttings, grafting or layering. Lilac seeds are usually harvested in early October. They can be sown in autumn or spring. If you want to sow them in the spring, they must be stratified first.

Cuttings of lilacs are carried out during active flowering. Cuttings cut from shoots-one-year-old, from the middle part. Substrate for them is a mixture of sand with vermiculite, perlite or river sand (peeled). Inoculation is carried out with a handle, or with a sleeping kidney. The stock is made of Hungarian lilacs, common larvae, and lilacs.

The grafted plants are grown in the form of a half-stitch, cluster or stump form. Form the stem should be started for the second year after vaccination. Stab should not exceed 1.5 meters in height. Stamp lilac requires special care - it is necessary to ensure that the main shoot is not covered with shoots.

Syringa Meyeri Palibin

There are several varieties of this kind of lilac. We will introduce you to them. The most popular and popular among them is the lilac of Meyer Palibin. This is a deciduous shrub. Crohn is very compact. The leaves are located opposite, broadly elliptical or ovate. Their length is about 4 cm, width - 2.5 cm, from above they are completely smooth, dark green, the lower part is much lighter, sometimes along the veins are pubescent, the edges slightly wavy.

Flowers are located at the ends of shoots, have a light purple color. There are always a lot of them, and they have a strong flavor. The upright inflorescence is up to 10 centimeters long. Blooms in late May. Lilac Meyer Palibin refers to the repair varieties. This means that it blooms repeatedly. Usually this happens at the end of the summer, but not as abundantly and magnificently as in the spring.

Cultivation

This kind of lilac is frost-resistant, light-loving, but at the same time it tolerates penumbra. Very fond of fertile, slightly acid or slightly alkaline moist soils, but does not tolerate flooding.

Planting pits are filled with compost or humus mixed with garden soil. Top dressing is carried out twice a season. Adult shrubs are cut, remove dying off, old shoots that grow inside the crown. In grafted plants remove excess shoots. Stamp shrubs are cut more intensively.

Lilac saplings Palibin can be formed in the form of a ball, a bush or to give them a stamp form. This cute dwarf tree does not exceed 60 cm. In this form it can be used both for rearing on a private plot, and as a pot culture.

At least three to four times a season, it is necessary to loosen the soil (not too deep) - about five to six centimeters. Lilac Palibin is suitable for group and single landings, to create fairly dense hedges.

Red Pixie

Another gorgeous tall and hardy plant. Lilac Meyer Red Pixie blooms twice a year. The first time in late May, the second in late July - early August. The bush is compact, quite dense. Its height can be from 100 to 170 centimeters, width about 120 centimeters.

Buds are painted in purple-red color. The flowers initially have a rich pink tint, then they turn out to be light pink. Surprisingly, this plant starts to bloom very early. Quite small bushes (25 cm) are covered with numerous inflorescences, producing a stunning aroma. This plant is ideal for a small garden.

Blumerang Ash

The repair grade, which is a complex hybrid of lilacs of large leafy, spreading, Meyer and Juliana. The bush is compact, the height is about 150 cm, width is no more than 160 cm. It blossoms for the first time in May, the second one - in August. But most importantly, the color is preserved until frost.

Flowers have a gentle lavender shade and a rich flavor. This lilac is unusually good in bouquets - early in the morning it is necessary to cut two thirds of the flowering branch, put it in water, splitting the cuts at the ends. With repeated blossoming, inflorescences have a smaller size and a more intense color. To improve the secondary flowering, remove after the first wave of faded whisk. This species is used in small gardens as decoration on lawns or for creating original compositions.

Joseph

Another wonderful representative of the "balcony series." The miniature lilac of Meyer Jose is a repairing kind. The bush is small, sprawling, with a width of 1.25 meters. The peculiarity of the variety is a very slow growth, therefore it is more often used to decorate mixborders.

The flowers are almost violet with a pink tinge, with a strong aroma. Especially it is felt at group landing. The first time blooms in late May (sometimes in early June). The second time (at the end of August) flowering is less active.

Like all the lilacs of Meyer, Jose prefers solar, with light penumbra plots. Comfortably feels on well drained loams with humus content. In additional watering only in drought years.
