How to plant an apple tree

Before planting an apple tree, beginning gardeners carefully choose a variety, focusing on the timing of the first harvest, because you really want to taste your own apples as soon as possible. However, this is not quite the right approach, 80 percent of the success depends not on what sort of variety to choose, but on how the tree is planted.

How to plant an apple tree correctly

When buying a small tree, pay attention to whether it is marked with a southern side. It is desirable that the mark was, because the planting of apple seedlings should be done taking into account the orientation of the seedling before digging. Fulfill this condition - get the first apples earlier and in more quantity. If in the nursery or from friends dig up the seedlings with you, independently tie the ribbon to one of the branches from the south side.

Before planting an apple tree in a permanent place, it must be plucked, but while the pit is being prepared, dig it. Scraping - removing all the remaining leaves - stops metabolism, and shallow dipping in any suitable place almost in a horizontal position protects the roots from drying out. A pit with roots must be covered with earth, priptoptat and abundantly watered.

Now you can do the preparation of a permanent place. If it is ready by the time the tree is purchased, then the intermediate stage, of course, can be skipped and planted immediately in the prepared pit, but life experience shows that it is rarely possible to plan everything. More often seedlings are bought on the occasion, when the place is not yet ready.

How to plant an apple tree so that it feels free not only at first time, but also in years, when it turns into a spreading tree? Do not spare the place! If it seems wasteful to leave a space of several meters between a tiny seedlings and other trees, then use it to grow summer crops: vegetables or flowers. When the tree grows, you praise yourself for your foresight, because only a single standing apple tree will be healthy, beautiful and yielding. A few pieces next will oppress each other, they will suffer, and the fruiting will inevitably weaken.

Also, do not choose a landing near the main garden path or buildings for planting. A few years later a powerful tree fences the passage or deforms the wall of the economic structure.

In the case of a high standing groundwater on the site, before planting the apple tree, it is created for a drier condition. This can be done either by digging drainage grooves around the near-well territory and filling them with broken brick, slate, etc., or by putting a sheet of dense material on the bottom of the pit, so that the main core root of the apple tree does not go down, as it is designated by nature, but aside, Avoiding meeting with water. In the second case, during the entire life of the tree, avoid deep loosening in the near-trunk circle, so as not to damage the feeding system.

Dimensions of the pit are traditionally equal to 1 meter in depth and 1.5 meters in diameter. At the bottom of the garden lands, mixed with peat, humus and compost to half the depth, falls, then there is a layer of simple land without impurities to the level where the root collar of the seedling will be. A strong wooden stake is hammered into the center, which will support the fragile tree at the beginning. Installation of the support is always done before planting the plant, and not after!
Now you can install a seedling, spread the rootlets and sprinkle them with earth. It remains only to compact the soil, bind the stem to the cola and pour the apple-tree with plenty of water. Do not limit the amount of moisture - the first watering can be a 70-liter. After all was absorbed, the stock circle is mulched with humus or dry grass. A week later, watering is repeated, after which the apple tree can be considered planted.
