Leaflet on the pear: how to fight it. Than to process a pear from a leaf roller?

Pests are the greatest threat to the growth of the pear . Insects can significantly affect both the development of the tree itself and its yield. Fruits become small and less common on the branches. One of the most dangerous pests is the pear-leaf on the pear (photo below).

General description of an insect

About ten thousand varieties of butterflies belong to the leaf rollers. Their main feature is that insects fold their wings on the back in a horizontal position. In the people they are called moths. The leaf roll is a small insect that affects almost the entire surface part of the plant.

Two-centimeter caterpillars are a big danger for trees. They live for almost the entire warm season. Sometimes you can find a leaf roll in the spring. An insect can appear even on a young seedlings. Caterpillars have a different color: from green-yellow to brown. With a light touch, they bend sharply and fall off the sheet, hanging on a thin cobwebbed thread. The adult is a butterfly. The insect has long gray wings with a unique pattern: in the middle there is a wide white band.

Pest life cycle

Caterpillars gnaw on leaves (leaving one vein) and fold them in the form of a tube. They form a cocoon with the help of their web. Pupation in the middle of summer (usually the beginning of July). After about two weeks, adult insects appear. Pests can give several generations in one season.

Butterfly of some species (hawthorn, rosannaya and frost) have time to lay eggs on the trunk and leaves of the pear during the summer time for the next year. The caterpillars of the remaining leaf rollers are able to survive the wintering. They leave their cocoons in the cracks of the tree bark or directly on the branches.

Insects emerge from hibernation in early spring and penetrate the pear buds, completely eating them from the inside. As a result, some of the young tree shoots die.

Distribution of leaf rollers

Widespread insects have received in the Non-chernozem zone. Here is found a leaf-roll on a pear and apple. Has dark gray wings with a span of about 1 centimeter.

In the Moscow, Leningrad and Vladimir regions, lives a rosary. Butterfly of this species has a golden or brown-yellow color. On the wings are wavy strips and spots.

Almost in each climatic zone there is a pest of this species. In our country there are about 50 varieties of litokratok.

The leaflet on the pear: signs of disease in the tree

An alarming signal for the grower should be the detection of twisted leaves. They change their color and become dark (almost black). Especially careful is to check the young trees in the spring. With a massive damage to the plant, a pest can lose up to 80% of fruits and buds. If you do not fight insects, the caterpillars-leaf rollers eat more than half the leaves of the tree crown.

There is a leaf roller on a pear, and not only. Individuals of this species are parasitic on other fruit trees. Some types of leaf rollers are polyphagous and can damage berries and forest species. In the risk group are also hawthorn, cherry, plum, bird cherry, mountain ash and a number of other trees and shrubs. Therefore, experts recommend a comprehensive treatment of the entire garden.

How to deal with a leaf roller on a pear in the spring?

The fight against pests should start from early spring. Increasing the sunny day and air temperature is a signal for development not only to plants, but also to insects. The processing of cultural plantations must be done before flowering.

Than to process a pear from a leaf roller? Wintering pests are destroyed by sprinkling plants in the early spring with a special formulation, "Preparation 30". Insecticides are recommended to be applied before the formation of buds. If the leaf rollers prevail, which hibernate in the egg stage, then special preparations are applied after the formation of the green cone of the future inflorescence.

The experience of gardeners has shown that if a leaflet on a pear has appeared, the most effective are the following insecticides: Atom, Binom, Desant, Zolon, Terradim. The concentration of active substance in water should be low. It is recommended to add no more than one milliliter per 1 liter of liquid. The consumption of the composition for each tree is from 2 liters, depending on the size.

When buds are formed, tomato, tobacco (makhorka), camomile, wormwood or yarrow are sprayed on branches. Re-treatment is carried out immediately after the bloom of the pear.

Active pest control measures

If the signs of plant damage were not immediately revealed by a leaflet, you should concentrate on active measures to control insects. Young caterpillars are destroyed with the help of such biological products: "Lepidocida", "Bitoxybacillin" and "Phytoverma". The recommended air temperature for work must be at least 10 degrees. Specialists recommend using pyrethroids. The most famous of them are Ivanhoe, Akkor, Tsi-Alpha, Fastak and others.

In the summer, combating a leaf roller on pears is less effective. In addition, the use of potent drugs can kill useful insects. Therefore, the butterflies of the leaf roller are caught on bait. To do this, at night a small distance from the earth hang containers with a fermenting liquid.

Ways to protect fruit trees

Pear and apple trees are threatened not only by caterpillars, which eat up shoots, but also a special kind of leaf rollers (moths). Butterfly pests lay eggs at the top or bottom of the leaf at night. Appearing from these eggs, larvae actively eat the flesh of the fruit, so you can lose the crop cavity.

Effective methods of struggle are:

- cleaning the bark on the trunks of plants;
- burning of fallen leaves;
- Whitewashing of the trunks with calcareous composition.

Some gardeners note the good effect of pesticides for the destruction of insects. Applying "Fury", "Inta-vir", "Kinmiks" and "Rovikurt", you can achieve a sustainable result. Experts recommend combating the leaf roller using the whole complex of measures.

Preventive measures

How to spray a pear from a leaf roller? Trees are treated with a special composition in the beginning of spring, at an air temperature of not less than plus 4 degrees. Usually gardeners use for this 0.3% solution of carbophos. Repeated treatment is carried out after the bloom of the pear. Also, the drug "Preventive" is used. It is necessary to dilute a half-liter of liquid in 10 liters of pure water. The consumption of the composition should not exceed 5 liters per tree.

If a small amount of pests is found on the plant, insects can be collected manually. You need to be very careful and try to destroy all the caterpillars.
