Large fetus during pregnancy: its features and the process of childbirth

Many people tend to think that if a woman has a big stomach during pregnancy , then she always wears a large baby. In fact, this is not at all the case. Large belly sizes can be the result of excessive weight of the future mother, polyhydramnios or neoplasms that appeared in the small pelvis during gestation.

A large fetus during pregnancy is determined by ultrasound. This information is then compared with special measurements of the abdomen and pelvis of the woman, as well as the position of the uterus, after which the formula calculates the approximate weight of the child. By the time of delivery, the doctor must know the expected weight of the baby in order to avoid unforeseen complications during the birth process.

A large fetus during pregnancy is a strictly individual concept for every woman, depending on the location of the baby in the womb and the size of the pelvis.

Large Fruit: Causes

There are several prerequisites that can lead to the development of a large fetus. To them, first of all, the genetic parameters include: if the mom and dad of the baby were born large, then the likelihood that their child will have impressive dimensions is quite large. Also, if the future mother has endocrine pathologies (hypothyroidism or diabetes mellitus), then a large fetus during pregnancy can be the result of an already disturbed metabolism in the child. In addition, quite often in women, the second baby is born more by weight than the firstborn. But this trend is by no means the rule, since in the second and subsequent childbirth the size of the fetus depends on a number of other factors (for example, on the amount of hemoglobin in the blood, the absence of anemia, the functioning of the placenta, the threat of miscarriage, etc.).

Large fetus: childbirth

In most such cases, this process has some features:

  1. They take more time. This is due to the increase in the second period (exile). Passage of the baby's large head through the birth canal in this case requires a lot of time, and therefore, special efforts from the parturient woman and obstetrician.
  2. There may be additional difficulties in the event that the child appears borne. Such children have denser cranial bones, and it is more difficult for them to pass through the birth canal.
  3. In connection with the overgrowth of the uterus at the birth of a large baby, it is possible to weaken the birth activity. This situation will require the introduction of a woman giving birth to special medicines that stimulate this process.
  4. At the time of the eruption of the head, the woman is most often made to cut the perineal tissues (episiotomy) To avoid tears. Such incisions after birth are sutured, and they subsequently leave no trace.

In general, a large fetus during pregnancy is not something unusual and causes special concerns. With the right choice of obstetric tactics, most such births end successfully with the birth of a healthy baby. Nevertheless, many women who carry a large child express concerns about the successful completion of labor and insist on caesarean section. Doctors also argue that without special evidence to resort to it is not necessary, since this full-fledged surgical operation also carries a lot of risks. Not to mention the fact that the process of recovery after it takes much longer than after the birth in a natural way.
