Hortensia in Siberia: planting and caring for an ornamental plant

Hortense is a magnificent shrub. It can decorate the dacha section if it is placed next to a gazebo, a place for rest, a veranda. He is famous for the beauty of his spherical inflorescences, which can have a white, lilac or pink color. As far as the hydrangea tree in Siberia can be beautiful, the photo clearly demonstrates. It blossoms long enough: from June to October.

Description of the plant

The plant is a perennial. It belongs to the Hortensian family, which numbers more than eighty species. The height of the shrub reaches from 1.5 to 2 meters. When flowering ends, fruit-boxes are formed. Seeds are growing in them. The plant comes from China, very thermophilic. For breeding in Russia only a few of its varieties are suitable. The tree-shaped hydrangea "Anabel" and the "eternal summer" variety are very beautiful. The latter variety is unique due to its colors. They can have a blue or pink color, depending on the acidity of the soil.

Reproduction of hydrangea

The plant multiplies in several ways: cuttings, cuttings and bush division. To better take root garden hydrangea in Siberia, it is bred with layers. This is done very simply. It is enough to prepare a hole in advance, then bend to the ground an annual shoot of the bush and press it down so that it does not rise. You can slightly dig it. At the same time, it is necessary to leave the upper part of it at least twenty centimeters. A year later, the already established shoot should be cut off from the main bush. Then, together with a lump of earth, he is transferred to a new place, where he will grow permanently. Between the plants should be a distance of one to one and a half meters. For the first time the hydrangea starts to bloom for 4 years.

Fertilizing fertilizers, watering and pests

Requires a regular feeding of hydrangeas. In Siberia, planting and caring for this decorative flower shrub include the introduction of peat (during the planting of seedlings in the spring), humus. Once a summer, the plant must be watered with slurry and a complex mineral fertilizer. Shrub can be supplied once a month with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Autumn is superphosphate.

Since hydrangeas are very hygrophilous, in Siberia planting and care of it are accompanied by regular watering. The plant prefers the soil fertile, sour, friable. The site should be selected light and protected from winds. In spring, they trim the last year's shoots so that the bushes bloom more luxuriantly.

There are pests from which the hydrangea suffers. In Siberia, planting and care involves protecting the plant from spider mites and aphids. To do this, you need to monitor the condition of the leaves of the bush, if necessary, treat it with special chemicals or collect insects manually. Among the most dangerous diseases of plants, it is possible to distinguish false powdery mildew.

To prevent the hydrangea from becoming frozen in Siberia, planting and nursing require special training. The plant is covered. The soil around the bushes is covered with sawdust or peat, the layer should be from six to seven centimeters. In the spring, the land must be cleared of mulch, but not completely. Do not worry if the upper part of the shoots is affected by frost. During the summer period they will quickly grow back.
