Lilies transplantation in spring - basic rules

Lilies are transplanted in spring in April-May. First of all, carefully dig up the plant so as not to damage the germ. If it still broke, the lily just does not bloom in the coming year. Lily bulbs, prepared for transplantation, should be carefully examined, trimmed faded roots, removed rotted processes. If it became necessary to keep the selected specimens for several days, put them in a cool dark place and from time to time shift them with wet sawdust, sand or earth.

The soil

It will be best if you prepare the soil from autumn, then the transplantation of lilies in the spring will not take you much time. The ground should be loose, add as much sand as is necessary for good growth, do not forget also about fallen pine needles or peat. Such soil is required for many varieties of lilies. With more exact requirements to the soil you can get acquainted by looking at the catalog of lilies. The depth of planting depends on the size of the bulbs. If the sprouts are small, and the bulb itself is large - plant to a depth of 20 cm, counting from the top. Small bulbs immerse 10-15 cm. If the shoots are 15-20 cm in length, the best way is to plant flowers in horizontal grooves to a depth of 11-12 cm.

Protection against frosts

Transplanting lilies in the spring has only one drawback - frost. Late frosts are a real calamity for gardeners and a serious blow for delicate flowers. In the best case, the lilies will stand twisted, and may even lose the aboveground part. As you know, May is a pretty capricious month, so you need to prepare in advance for the changeable weather. Deep planting or horizontal planting of germinating bulbs is an excellent way to prevent frost damage. If you know in advance about the approach of cooling, you need to act. Add the ampoule of epine to the watering can and water the lilies planted abundantly. Wet land will take over the entire impact force, and epin will relieve stress from plants after frost.

Do I need to feed lilies?

Lily transplantation in the spring is a laborious process, but it does not end at landing and protection from frosts. After planting flowers in the ground, they need to be fed, because a small bulb first needs to build a strong overhead "body", bring it to flowering, prepare for the next season ... Without your help, the bulb of the lily can not cope! It is useless to feed lilies, while the snow lies, because the roots have not yet woken up, and fertilizers pass by. Wood ash beneficially affects plants. You need to make it with the calculation of 100 grams per m 2 , you can a couple of times per season. Due to this, the flowers become large, brighter and more resistant to diseases, ash very well kills pathogenic bacteria. As soon as sprouts appear above the ground, it is recommended to water the soil with the following composition. In 9 liters of water, add one tablespoon of baking soda and ammonia, then dissolve one st. L copper sulphate in one liter of warm water and pour in a previously prepared solution with a thin trickle, with constant stirring. What else do lilies need? In regular watering, inspecting for insects (aphids and others) and, of course, in attention. Then the beauties will please you with a beautiful flowering.
