First introduction to the BMW 530

After a tiring road to Munich, I did not immediately realize that the pretty blonde holding a keychain with the BMW logo was meeting me. Yes, and the transport, which I met this very beauty, I was very surprised. It was a brand new BMW 530 in the package, close to the top: a leather interior, navigation and a manual transmission. Under the hood, I heard, of course, the diesel. The Germans have a petrol engine - a rarity.
About half the way it took me to sort out the various settings of the seat. All my attempts to raise the headrest remained in vain. As it turned out, they are electronically controlled (like everything in the BMW 530 interior). A small victory was my find of a massager, who cheered me up before the trip.

Meet the BMW 530d xDrive

The next day, after a good rest from the flight, we went to the purpose of my trip - a special testing ground in the mountains, where I was to get acquainted with the principle of the all-wheel drive system xDrive. For the first time it appeared in an off-road vehicle X5. Over time, the system moved to classic Bavarian sedans and station wagons. It was made in response to the requirements of connoisseurs of BMW. For example, in Germany, a third of the cars sold by this brand were equipped with a full drive. The BMW 530 was no exception.

Right off the bat

In response to customer desires, the company's designers began using the xDrive system more extensively. Over time, it began to appear in cars, not intended for off-road. With all the pluses of the rear drive, which makes it possible to realize a gambling and exciting ride, it is necessary to recognize that in winter it is not always effective. On a slippery surface, stabilization systems do everything to keep the balance of the car. With a sharp snatch from a place in the snow, they just do not let the car pick up speed. In another, unfortunately, it is impossible. If you disable the proprietary stabilization system DSC, then the machine immediately goes into the skid, even when starting from the second speed.

At this point it is advisable to disclose the general concept of these two systems - DSC and DTC.
The DTC is a dynamic traction controller that does not allow the machine to slip and retreat. It turns off briefly (about a second) by pressing the shutdown button. At the same time, the driver gets full freedom to control the traction of the car. The DSC remains active.

DSC - hydraulic stabilization system. It is responsible for the stability of the car in any situation. It helps with a sharp rebuild in another lane, keep the car on a slippery road and prevent a rhythmic drift. This controller, as a rule, works to prevent such situations. Long press (5 seconds) turns it off and leaves the driver one on one with the Bavarian. The slogan of BMW is "the driver of the main". Since he decided to turn off all the stabilization systems, it means that it is necessary, and it is impossible to interfere with this.

But what about the rear-wheel drive? On the snow BMW GT 530d from a fast car turns into a car with limited abilities. When the safety sensors are switched on, the problem starts moving from the spot. If you turn everything off, turning around will not be a problem. Promotes this, a large wheelbase and a small ground clearance.

Summary

Three days spent with xDrive on the track and in the snow, convinced me that the all-wheel drive BMW 530 - a car that allows you to test the skills of extreme driving. It makes the driver more confident in their abilities.
