Every car enthusiast knows that in a car with a manual gearbox the main gear plays a significant role. The main gear is the mechanism for transferring the engine torque to the driving wheels. Consider the types of transmissions used in cars of the VAZ brand.

Classic layout

The classic arrangement is a front longitudinal engine arrangement and rear drive wheels.

The combination of devices and mechanisms between the engine and the driving wheels is called the transmission. In this case, it is a sequential set of clutch, gearbox, propeller shaft, conical helical gear in the rear axle, from which the driving wheels of the machine are driven through the semiaxis.

Front-wheel drive configuration

In the front-drive configuration of the VAZ models, the front transverse arrangement of the engine is used, which is assembled by a single unit with a gearbox, clutch and main transmission from which the drives of the driving wheels come out using the hinges of equal angular velocities (SHRUS).

All-wheel drive configuration

In all-wheel drive vehicles VAZ, the all-wheel drive configuration is used, in which the torque is continuously applied to the front and rear wheels without the possibility of disconnecting the front axle in the proportion of fifty to fifty. As a matter of fact, in such cars two main transfers.

The transmission device of the VAZ car with four-wheel drive includes a clutch, a gearbox, a transfer case, from which torque is transferred to the front and rear axles by means of cardan. Between the front axle and the wheels are installed drives, as on front-wheel drive models. Structurally, the rear of the transmission is similar to the transmission of cars with a classic layout.

The main transmission of the cars under consideration is hypoid, that is, the axes of its gears intersect, it uses conical helical gears. In this mechanism, a special lubricant is used for heavy operating conditions. Also an integral part of the main gear is the differential - a mechanism that allows to unload the inner wheel when turning, in which the radius of the turning curve will certainly be less than that of the outer wheel. If such a mechanism did not exist, the wheels would describe an equal distance, while the inner wheel would be subjected to increased wear and load, as well as the gear mechanism itself.

Usually the main VAZ transmission is a reliable enough device. With proper care and maintenance it serves a long time, this does not include participation in street races and transportation of crops from fields and vegetable gardens.
