The choice of winter tires: we approach the business seriously
Periodically before each motorist the question arises of replacing summer tires with winter tires, and vice versa. They can not be changed, as this threatens not only a serious fine, but also an accident. To such a task as the choice of winter tires, one should be particularly serious and bear in mind some of the subtleties that need to be considered during the purchase. First of all, you need to be interested in the life of tires. Basically, it does not exceed five years. Therefore, always look at the date when the tire was manufactured. This is especially true when you buy rubber
Consider how to choose the rubber correctly, taking into account its wear resistance. Look for the word Treadwear on the tire and the number next to it. This will be the coefficient of wear resistance, and the higher it is, the longer the tires will last. The base factor is 100 units, which are equal to 48 thousand kilometers of run. Therefore, if next to Treadwear there is a figure of 400 (this indicator is the most common), this means that the tire can run 192 thousand kilometers. Of course, this all accounts for exceptionally ideal operating conditions. But, in any case, if you stop the selection of winter tires on the one that has a factor of 100, then this tire will last you no more than one season. The higher the index, the correspondingly, for a greater number of seasons, the tires will suffice.
Another important indicator is the speed index. If you still have an instruction manual for the car, then you can find information about the required tire index. Usually it is denoted by Latin letters from H to Z. Each letter means a certain speed, which should not be exceeded above, in order to avoid loss of adhesion to the road surface and, as a consequence, an accident. Therefore, when making a choice of winter tires, please take note of the following table:
Index | N | P | Q | R | S | T | U | H | V | W | Y | ZR |
Km / hr | 140 | 150 | 160 | 170 | 180 | 190 | 200 | 210 | 240 | 270 | 300 | More than 240 |
It is equally important to take into account the load index, that is, the largest specific weight of a machine that can withstand one wheel. On the tires, it is indicated by numbers from 60 to 130. As the index is higher, the rubber is less elastic, and its frame is thicker. Because of this, riding a car can be not very comfortable, and the suspension can quickly wear out.
