Asymmetry of the face - causes and treatment

Unfortunately, nowhere there are absolutely hundred symmetrical objects. In any subject where there are seemingly two similar parts of the same whole, nevertheless there are some inconsistencies.

In the human body, the principle of symmetry operates: paired organs, two limbs on each side of the body, etc. But this principle never works with purely mathematical precision. For example, very often right-handers have their right hand somewhat longer than the left one. This discrepancy of lengths arises from the uneven use of hands - while a significant portion of the operations a person does with his right hand (letter, etc.), the left rest. Left-handed asymmetry is the reverse - the right arm is shorter. Already in the womb of the mother, a certain asymmetry of the skull begins to appear. And it, as a rule, is the reason that there is asymmetry of the face. Causes can also be functional - the more involved one or another part of the body, the greater asymmetry it exhibits to adjacent parts of the body. For example, asymmetry in the lower jaw is usually greater than that of the upper jaw .

The asymmetry of the face is not a deviation, but rather a norm. There is almost no 100% symmetrical face. A small asymmetry is almost all, and few people consider this a serious drawback. Women easily eliminate the appearance of this "problem" with good make-up. However, a pronounced discrepancy between the right and left side of the face does not adorn anyone. Moreover, one of the measures of beauty is harmony, which does not contribute to the asymmetry of the person. The reasons for it can be grouped into three groups:

  • Congenital;
  • Age-related;
  • Acquired.

Acquired appear, for example, because of the habit of sleeping on the same side or due to any injuries or a serious infection. Able to create problems with normal breathing or chewing food serious facial asymmetry. The reasons for its appearance are often uneven development of individual parts of the skull. The shape of the face can be distorted due to lengthening of the left or right part of it. The asymmetry of the face can also be caused by the disproportion of the volume of the soft parts of the face on its different halves. If the load on the muscles of different sides of the face was uneven, then it can also cause such a result. If this discrepancy between the parts of a person has become obvious to others, then it is worthwhile to think about its elimination. No one is painting a serious asymmetry of the face. Treatment of it depends primarily on the cause. For example, in some cases, it is sufficient to eliminate the curvature of the nasal septum, and the problem will be solved. Before the asymmetry of the face is eliminated, the reasons for it must be known in detail. Without accurate information about what caused a disproportion, treatment may be ineffective.

Before the start of treatment, some diagnostic measures must be completed; The asymmetry of the face must be carefully examined. Treatment is impossible without such a diagnosis. These activities include: clinical examination, photographing the patient's face, anthropometry, tele-radiography and facial tomography, as well as bite examination. Only after all these measures is possible an accurate diagnosis and clarification of the reasons for which there is asymmetry of the person. Treatment is carried out in a hospital. It often happens that orthodontic treatment is not enough to solve the problem, because the main cause of the wrong position of the teeth is not eliminated. After all, most often because of the incorrect development of the jaw bone, asymmetry of the face occurs. Treatment, conducted unprofessionally, is fraught with only new problems. In some cases, to eliminate facial asymmetry, it is necessary to sew special facial implants into soft tissues. Surgical intervention to correct such pathology should be carried out in a specialized clinic, by a qualified specialist and using the most modern techniques. Also, in some cases, facial asymmetry is treated with botulinum toxin preparations. After the operation, the patient should stay in the hospital for some time, more often for several days, under the supervision of medical personnel.
