The Mojave Desert is a symbol or even the personification of the southern states of America. It stretches along three state units of the United States and reaches the border with Mexico, where it smoothly passes into the Sonoran desert. Here all the time reigns infernal heat and blowing the wind, and in ancient times with such a bad weather managed only by courageous cowboys.

Numerous natural treasures, unique landscapes, valleys and endless horizons - this is what today includes the Mojave Desert. Cemetery aircraft, and most importantly, Las Vegas - is the main attractions of the area. Now we will take a closer look at this tourist site.

Flora and fauna of the region

Alas, not everyone is able to enjoy the flora of this area. The Mojave Desert has a very meager set of plants, and all those that are here are very specific and non-standard. First, there are numerous cacti, among which you can find such populations, which in our latitudes are not even sold. Secondly, in the desert there is a tree-like yucca. Very widely distributed are various types of short shrubs.

A characteristic feature of this deserted area are the plants-ephemeriods. These are single-season populations, which themselves are sown and germinate only if it rains. In these moments, the desert is dressed in all sorts of colors, but this beauty does not last long. Of the representatives of the fauna, birds, insects and reptiles are most common here.

Ghosts of the Desert

In the distant years, the Mojave desert, despite the fact that it is a very harsh and unacceptable climate, was occupied by several cities. Later, the government began to build new highways that bypassed these settlements, and eventually life in them completely faded.

One of the most attractive ghost towns in the Mojave is Calico. These are the ruins of an ancient, typically western town, inhabited by courageous cowboys and their families. It is followed by the settlement of Kelso, from which only the depot was preserved. The main asset of this area is considered to be buzzing sand. The local dunes, exposed to strong winds, show the world real melodies, which are simply unreal to forget.

Death Valley

Now we will consider what the most famous landmark is the Mojave Desert. The Death Valley is the most arid part of the terrain that the Indians in olden times called the Tierra del Fuego. From April to October, the air temperature rises to 52 degrees, and at the same time, not a single drop of rain falls. The amount of water that a person can lose in an hour is one liter, so you can die very quickly from dehydration in the Valley of Death.

Technogenic cemetery

For several decades, people were sending flying liners and fighters on their last journey, and for their graves an ideal location was chosen - the Mojave Desert. The cemetery of the aircraft, which is located here, is located not far from the local airfield, and in recent years this dump has become a real open-air museum. The aircraft, the last refuge for which was the Mojave Desert, volunteers and residents of the surrounding settlements have transformed. Some cabins, salons were dismantled, they built in the backlight. Of course, for restaurants and hotels, these wastes of overground transport have not yet been altered, however, it may be that soon a new tourist destination will appear on our planet.

Joshua Tree Park

The Mojave Desert has a very specific flora, which is not found anywhere else on the planet. Therefore, the authorities very carefully guard it, collecting each of the species in one national park.

On the territory of the Joshua-Tree Reserve you can find a variety of types of flowers, bushes, and a plant-symbol of the desert - yucca. There are presented all its varieties, which cause delight in every tourist. It is worth noting that the national park is also rich in artifacts of the past. In this area previously lived the Indians, household items and weapons of which remained in the lands of Mojave to the present day. Now they are excavated and presented in numerous museums.

An oasis in the middle of the wasteland

The Mojave Desert is located on the map in the tropical and subtropical climatic zones. This suggests that there should be a mild and humid climate suitable for summer holidays. In fact, the earth is covered with hard rocks, which are tirelessly filled with winds. But amid the unbearable heat and the eternal wind, you can find an oasis - Lake Mead. It is the largest reservoir in the US, which waters California and Nevada with its waters. It is surrounded by picturesque bays, sandy beaches, where you can swim, sunbathe, practice water sports or just admire the scenery. In the days of the decline of water, the islands appear here, which makes the landscape even more unusual and attractive.
