Tierra del Fuego - the mysterious Land of Light
Those who want to go to the end of the world are unlikely to realize that they mean the Tierra del Fuego. The archipelago is located in the very south of South America and has about 40 thousand islands of different sizes and shapes. This strange name of the territory was given by seafarer Fernand Magellan. When in 1520 he swam to the islands, he saw the numerous fires of the Indians, who mistook for the volcanic vents.
To date, Tierra del Fuego is divided between two states: Argentina and Chile. The first went to the southern part, and the second to the rest of the territory. The northern part of the archipelago is similar in many respects to Patagonia, and further to the south nature is becoming poorer, mountain landscapes covered with glaciers appear. During the year, a lot of precipitation falls here , the climate is rather cool, so it is very difficult to call this archipelago a resort. Tierra del Fuego, despite this, every year attracts more and more people who want to be alone with nature, far from civilization.
You can get acquainted with local architecture, historical and cultural monuments, admire the flora and fauna of these places. When going to rest, many tourists confuse the fiery belt of the Earth with the southernmost archipelago because of similar names. The edge of the world is in many respects different from other places on the planet, therefore to visit here though time really costs.
Having visited the archipelago, it is worth to round Cape Horn, in the coastal waters of which lies the whole cemetery of ships. Do this from November to March, then the weather is not too raging. It will be interesting to repeat the route of Charles Darwin, for this it is necessary to hire a conductor with a boat, having previously insured them and themselves at the same time. In restaurants, you need to try a dish from the royal crab of santola, this is no longer anywhere.
