When will the kittens open their eyes? We learn!

Many beginner animal owners are beginning to wonder about when the kittens will open their eyes as soon as they face the first litter in their life. Like puppies, small members of the feline tribe are usually born completely blind. In the process of growth in the first two weeks, they are actively developing and acquire many skills that were deprived at birth.

So, for example, the most developed feeling in newborn kittens is the sense of smell. They find the mother and the source of nutrition purely by smell. But the rumor is absent at first - the ears at birth are closed with small scallops of skin, which disappear on the ninth day of their life. After that, the kids are already beginning to hear and are oriented to purring the cat as a signal that everything is fine. But the time when the kittens will open their eyes, can be different - from two days to two weeks, depending on the breed and the course of pregnancy. So, usually in non-breeding animals this period is 7-10 days, but cats of the Sphynx breed often outstrip the rest of the species in this matter. Often their kittens are born with their eyes open, while for the rest of the breeds it is a sign of pathology. It is believed that babies born on the 55th-68th day of the pregnancy open their eyes later than their counterparts born after the 68th day, that is, completely full-term.

The color of the eyes in small cats is revealed only on the fifth or sixth weeks of life.

When newborn kittens open their eyes, they all have a dull blue color. This is not an indication that in the future animals will be blue-eyed - this feature can be traced in almost all mammals after birth.
At first, babies can not maintain heat exchange in the same way as adults. Usually mother takes care of this, warming them with her body, but in her absence it is necessary to provide the kittens with a comfortable temperature with the help of a warmer. The normal temperature of the body of the animals at this age is 39 degrees.

The best food for newborn kittens is mother's milk. Together with him they get immunity to many diseases. Also it provides the correct increase in weight of children as they grow. On average, the kitten weighs 80-100 grams at birth. A normal increase in human milk is about 10-15 grams per day. But to feed them with kefir or other sour-milk products is not worth it - it is better to wait for the kittens to open their eyes before starting the transfer to adult food.

The first teeth of small cats appear on the 4th week, before that animals can only perceive liquid food like milk. It should be remembered that at birth, digestion and excretory system they practically do not work - to stimulate urination and defecation in children, the cat lickens their stomachs after each feeding. And only when the kittens open their eyes, they will be able to cope with these processes on their own. If the cat is not around, after feeding the newborn kitten should be a soft moist warm cloth on his stomach in a clockwise direction to run the intestine.

Knowing all these subtleties of care for kittens, even the most inexperienced breeder will be able to grow a healthy and strong offspring, which soon will please him with his tricks and individual characteristics.
