Ragamuffin - special cat

When people first see this cat at a distance, the first thing that it experiences is fear. A gorgeous cat with great expressive eyes, who just ask people to come closer, appears. It's hard to believe that this animal is its soft wool of luxurious color that will allow a person to press against his body. As you approach this beautiful cat , the person approaching becomes completely absorbed in the eyes of the animal, who greet his attention, and the person, at the first touch to the magnificent wool, feels a sense of pleasure. It's called miracle ragamuffin - a cat whose strange name translates as "ragamuffin."

Ragamuffin - who is this

This is a new breed of cats, derived from the Ragdoll breed, named for this because the ancestors of the breed were mongrel animals. It turned into a completely separate line as a result of the breakaway group from the original Ragdoll breeding program in America and was named ragamuffin. Description of the breed should start with the fact that these animals in the classical style are medium and large in size cats. Male individuals are much larger than females. The weight of males averages from eight to thirteen kilograms, and females from seven to ten. They have a large bone structure with a tendency to fat deposits in the lower abdomen. Representatives of ragamuffins become fully mature by the age of four and have a life expectancy of ten to thirteen years. In the selection process, the hunting skill was completely lost.

Why wool is special

Ragamuffin is a cat belonging to semi-long-haired with color palette of colors and patterns: monophonic and striped, tortoiseshell or mink colors. The symmetry of the picture does not matter much, and the marks are not considered important. But most breeders appreciate unique patterns that are within the breed's compliance. The wool of these cats can be compared with rabbit fur, it is thick and plush, the length of the coat is almost equal to the length of the undercoat. At present, ragamuffin is a breed of cats, approved into an independent line, and either two parents-ragamuffins are allowed to cross to get animals of this breed, or one of them may be of this breed, and the second - regdoll.

Beginning of the breed

The history of the breed is considered hazy, but it is quite interesting. The talented American breeder of the Persians Anne Baker from California had a neighbor who contained a colony of wild cats. His cat, Josefina, resembling an angora, from an unprofitable wild cat produced the kittens of an unhealthy temperament. But one day she got under the car and after treatment in the veterinary clinic, her litters began to appear kittens with a very good-natured character. In 1960, Anne purchased several of these kittens and decided to start the breeding of a new breed. In 1963, she managed to get the first Ragdoll, a kitten with a calm temperament, which she wanted. Anne Baker set strict standards for the new breed, which provided for her breeding only through her own breeder association.

Further developments

In 1994, a group of American breeders in the person of Janet Klarmann, Kurt Gema and Kim Clark decided to leave the Anne association and create their own line of breeding that went beyond the strict standards of Anne by crossing all the pre-existing species. In 2003, the association was registered, and in 2011 the breed was recognized at the championship. Since the name Ragdoll was already patched, their new breed was called ragamuffin. It has a greater variety of colors and attracts many who hear the name ragamuffin-cat. The photo clearly demonstrates the beauty of this breed.

Nature and health of the breed

Ragamuffin is a breed of cats, which is famous for its unusual calm temperament, friendly and sociable character. The animals of this breed are very affectionate, like to put their tummy in order to be ironed, and loudly purr. Ragamuffins like to play, they often bring an abandoned toy, they treat other animals and small children in families well, so they are absolutely not dangerous. These cats do not like when they are left alone for a long time, and are very happy when someone pays attention to them. They are also wonderful companions for those who live alone, because they provide a much needed company and support.

As a rule, these are very healthy cats without any known defects associated with the breed. To protect against diseases, they are annually vaccinated against influenza and enteritis, and against leukemia if they are kept in the open air.

Caring for ragamuffin

Despite the presence of a long thick coat, ragamuffin is a cat that is not demanding in nursing. In order not to form collars and not to tangle the hair, it is necessary to comb it out at least once a week, paying special attention to the "panties" on the hind legs. For a good quality coat, a cat should have a varied diet and take vitamins. It is especially important for the skeleton of calcium, since the rock has a large bone and a large weight.
