Wild cat in your house

It's tempting to imagine that a real wild cat can live at home. But it's not worthwhile to start a lion or a tiger in an apartment, because their aggression is not always subject to control. An adult predator will necessarily begin to check "who in the house is the master, man or cat." And yet, if you really want to see next to a graceful and powerful animal of the genus of felines, what to do? Cats of the Savannah breed will give you such an opportunity. They were taken out in order to get a home version of the wild beast.

Externally, the cat of the Savannah breed looks impressive: spotted like a leopard, leggy, with big ears ... Of domestic cats, Savannah is the largest cat in the world; Weight fifteen kilograms, and growth at the withers up to sixty centimeters (females are slightly lower and lighter). The fact is that Savannah is not a breed at all, it is a hybrid between a large domestic cat and a wild African cat serval. Since hybrid cats are sterile, breeding Savannah is not an easy task and it is impossible to get kittens at home without losing "wild" qualities. The nature of these cats, of course, is less aggressive than the African wild ancestor. But, according to the stories of the owners, they have pronounced hunting instincts, for any sharp movement of the cat involuntarily rush. Savannas require a lot of free space, as they are very active and playful. They are thermophilic (affects the origin) and, oddly enough, quickly become accustomed to walking on a leash. It is worth noting that such a wild cat - an expensive pleasure and worth not less than a good car.

Much more accessible and easier to maintain is another, almost wild cat - the Maine Coon breed. This breed (bred about a hundred years ago) is now very popular, although not yet widespread enough. Maine coons divide with Savannah the title of the largest domestic cat, their dimensions are approximately the same, but these breeds look quite different. Maine Coon cats have a strong and muscular physique, a large head, a long and fluffy coat with a noticeable "collar" and tassels on the ears. Appearance of these cats is very similar to a lynx, although in fact they do not have a relationship with her. Maine coons originate from forest cats. The breed was bred in the state of Myanmar. There these cats lived on farms and were valued for endurance, unpretentiousness and excellent catching of rats. Maine Coon is translated as "Manx raccoon", so they were nicknamed for a thick fluffy tail, similar to the tail of a raccoon. The cat of this breed, though looks quite like a wild cat, but the disposition is complaisant and quite friendly, gets along well with children and dogs. Some owners describe the nature of their pets as calm, they say that Maine Coons are neat but not too active and like to sleep. Others consider them to be fun, playful and temperamental. Probably, different cats of the Maine Coon breed (like any domestic cat) have their own unique character. . Still these cats have an unusual voice. They do not meow, but publish short "hooting" and quite pleasant sounds.

In general, I wonder how much the cat weighs , the largest in the world and the smallest?

The most "petty" representative of the feline is the cat of Singapore. This natural domesticated breed weighs about two to three kilograms.

And the biggest weight is a common mongrel from the UK. Careful owners fed their beloved up to nineteen kilograms.

The largest wild cat in the world is, of course, a tiger, and the extinct saber-toothed tigers were even larger than those now living. But the biggest cat in the world (but not quite wild) is Ligris. This animal does not occur in nature, it lives only in the zoo. Like this? Simply Ligr - the product of a lion and a tigress, obtained in a zoo, and in the wild these animals do not cross. They weigh up to 400 kg. Surprisingly, Ligritsa can bring young, although interspecific hybrids, as a rule, are infertile.

And our ordinary mongrel cats are very different from those living in nature? Homeless "fuzzy" often become completely wild animals. After all, the cat was never completely domestic. Coexisting with a person, the cat has been walking "for itself" for many centuries.
