What is the laptop's hibernation and how does it differ from sleep mode or normal shutdown

The vast majority of users who have a laptop or a PC running Windows, use the "Start", then "Shut Down" and "Log Off" to shutdown and shutdown the system. Few people know what a dream or hibernation laptop, but meanwhile these modes can be of service if you know what they are and in what cases they are profitable to use. It's time to fill your gaps and take a closer look at these points.

What is the sleep mode

This option is sure to be of interest to those who use the PC at home and are interested in the fastest possible boot of the computer. In this mode, the current state of the system is also memorized, but if the hibernation of the laptop involves disconnecting power, then in sleep mode this does not happen. The operating system just pauses its work just like a tape recorder stops playing a melody if you press the "pause" key. In this condition, the laptop can be up to about 12 hours - the battery is discharged though it does, but much slower than with the minimum OS load in normal mode. In order to "wake up" the PC, just move the mouse, press any key or just open its lid.

What is Hibernation?

On the laptop, as, indeed, and on a netbook, tablet and any other mobile technology with Windows Vista / 7/8 for the user the most critical is the boot time and the level of power consumption of the system. Therefore, this mode is the most optimal for such devices. Hibernation of the laptop allows you to recover very quickly, without waiting for the launch of all applications that were started before shutting down. And the state of the system (running programs and processes, open windows) will be absolutely the same as the moment of activation of this mode.

What is different about the hibernation of a laptop from sleep

In the dormant state, the computer, in fact, continues to work (only the HDD, display and cooling system are disconnected) and if the mobile device remains in this state for a long time, sooner or later the battery will sit down. In hibernation mode, on the contrary, the PC is completely de-energized, unless, of course, the power supply of the crystal oscillator supporting the correct time / date display in the BIOS is considered. In this case, at the moment of transition to this mode, the exact image of the RAM is written to the hard disk's memory. And when you turn on the PC, this copy is restored back, which allows you to continue working from the previous stop, without worrying about the fact that the battery can sit. By that time, for sure, many already had a question: "How to enable hibernation?" You can do this either through the settings of the Start button itself, and in the control panel, in the tab responsible for setting power parameters. By the way, in the latter case, you can configure not only the activation of this mode from pressing the power button, but also the preferred action when closing the laptop cover.
