What if the idling speed floats?

The machine ceases to start the first time, stalls, often idle speed turns, - this problem is familiar to most motorists, is not it? At first, many panic, but after seeing that the car still rides, calm down and decide to leave everything as is. In fact, this and that is completely in vain: when the idling speed floats, panic is meaningless - because nothing terrible has happened, an accident or at least some serious problems such a situation does not threaten. But it's also not worth doing nothing: if you do not even take into account the nasty flicker of the arrow of the tachometre in front of your eyes and the repeated attempts to start the car every day, you should not forget that when the revolutions swim, the regulation of the power system is disturbed. And this can lead to increased fuel consumption by car.

Therefore, if the turnover is floating, this problem should be eliminated at the first opportunity. This can be done both in the cabin and at home. Of course, to try to do everything yourself should only in case of full self-confidence.

But before driving a car into a service or trying to do something yourself, it is advisable to get an idea of the possible causes of a malfunction of the idle speed sensor.

One of the most obvious and easily eliminated causes is a partially discharged battery. In the presence of this problem, turns tend to begin to swim after the inclusion of an additional power consumer: headlights, stoves or radio.

Another very popular reason is the air passage by the adsorber valve. A throttle can also be clogged.

In addition, a malfunction in the sensor of the idle speed can be caused by a malfunction of the sensor itself or the wiring. And the need to replace the spark plugs can cause jumps in the readings of the tachometer.

By the way, in the modern world there are special instruments that help to determine, because of what the engine speed is floating . With their help, you can quickly determine which part is faulty, and after - repair or replace it.

So, with the theory everything is clear, but despite this, in the car still idle speed turns. What to do in practice?

First try adjusting the speed adjustment screw. It must be tightened, thereby blocking the access of "excess" oxygen. Start the engine, check the results. If nothing has changed after this procedure, you can try to squeeze rubber tubes. For this procedure, you need two people - one to clamp the pliers of the tube, the other - to monitor the changes. If, after the clamping of a tube, the idling is equalized, it is necessary to remove the clamped tube from the branch pipe and determine from which end of the tube air enters.

After this, you should find the device to which the tube is coming, from which the excess air enters. It is advisable to find out the cause of the air leakage by this device and try to eliminate it.

If all the tubes were clamped, but no changes were seen, you can try to remove the air duct, which is directly in front of the throttle. By removing it you can see that there is a hole in the pipe that is located in front of the throttle. It must be plugged with a finger and asked the assistant to start the car. If there is a flow meter in the car, most likely the engine will not start. But if the launch has occurred, and the revolutions do not float, you need to try to inject into the pluggable hole the carburetor cleaning agent, to muffle the engine, to add more of this means and after a while to start the engine. If, after this, the idle speed is still floating, the throttle block must be changed.

Also, the cleaning of the crankcase ventilation valve or the reset of the servo motor screws can give results.

Well and if attempts to repair the car have not given results, it is necessary to go to service - there the reason of disturbance of work of idling will be eliminated.
