Opel Omega B: specifications, photos and reviews

Opel Omega B is a German car belonging to the business class. The second generation of the popular series, which was produced from 1986 to 2003. Interestingly, "Omega" was an intermediate model between such cars as "Ascona" and "Senator." True, Omega itself does not have a direct successor, and its production was completed in 2003.

About the first generation

Before describing in detail the car of Opel Omega B, it is worthwhile to briefly tell about its first generation. It is, as you can imagine, "Opel Omega A".

The production of this car started in 1986. It could be bought in the back of a four-door sedan, or a five-door wagon. True, the second version was called somewhat differently - "Omega-Caravan". It should be noted that the car turned out to be more than successful, and this is indicated by its title in 1987 "The Car of the Year".

The model could be completed with carburetor motors (1.8 liters), injector (1.8, 2.0, 2.4, 2.6 and 3.0) and atmospheric, diesel. There were also turbocharged engines. They, by the way, could work under the control of either a 4-speed "automatic" or a 5-speed "mechanics". The first variant was more modern, as the automatic transmission had sports and winter modes. The brakes on the model were placed on the disk, and they were all equipped with vacuum amplifiers.

The second generation

Opel Omega B - the continuation of the first issue, which was described above. The second generation was released from 1994 to 2003. And its main differences are improved, more modern design, comfortable interior of the cabin, as well as equipment and aerodynamics.

The first thing is to talk about the interior. The salon is very spacious. The front seats can boast mechanical adjustments to the longitudinal movement, as well as the inclination of the backrest. In such a machine, even a tall driver will feel comfortable. Moreover, the front seats have a microlift. Thanks to this function, it is possible to adjust them in height. There are even adjustments to the so-called lumbar support. And comfortable head restraints can be moved in two planes.

The backrest of the rear seat can be folded, and in three different versions. Thanks to this, it turns out to transport large objects in the car.

Equipment

Now you can talk about equipment. Power steering, ABS system, adjustable steering column, electromirrors (equipped with heating) and electric glasses, central locking - as you see, the Opel Omega B had a pretty rich package! There was also an electric sunroof, air conditioning, a rear spoiler, tinted windows, an electro-corrector optics, fog lights, cruise control and even mirror lighting. What can I say about the onboard computer and the regular immobilizer!

This was all in the maximum configuration of the first generation of "Omega". The car of Opel Omega B 2.0, in addition, could boast of 2-zone climate control, automatic headlight corrector, standard xenon light, rear curtain (sun protection), CD changer, leather interior. Agree that the package has become even richer and more comfortable.

Characteristics

Now it's worth to tell what Opel Omega B features. The maximum configuration was known as "Opel MV5". Under the hood of this model was installed a 6-cylinder V-engine volume of three liters. Another machine could be equipped with a turbodiesel engine (2.5 liters).

In 1999, the manufacturers decided that it was time to restyling. Clearly, there were visible external changes, in particular - the shape of the rear lamps and the trunk itself. The hood along with the front trim has also improved, made more modern. Since this year, an integral part of the image of "Opel" was the radiator grille. The body parts were also sent to additional processing, or - in other words - zinc. So it was possible to maximize the level of corrosion resistance.

Powertrains

Speaking about what the Opel Omega B (versatile vehicle) has technical characteristics, it is necessary to note separately its engines. So, the motors were squandered by the specialists (that is, they made more volume) and made some small changes. For example, two-component modules replaced the spark plug wires and the ignition module.

Last year's diesel engines were equipped with a system called Common Rail. It is interesting that the company "Opel" did not have engines of suitable volume that would work on diesel fuel. Because they were bought from a competitor - BMV.

Returning to the theme of restyling, it is worth noting that in the interior of the car chopped lines could be traced. Also there appeared more indicators and plastic. And the new multifunctional steering wheel developers also equipped a restyling model. The maximum configuration, by the way, included sensors for rain and light.

2000s

Opel Omega B Caravan has become a very popular car. In 2000, for example, the developers even planned to give attention to potential buyers a brand new engine called Y57XE, which is already famous at the time. And no wonder, because he stood under the hood of such a luxury car as the Chevrolet Corvette! Features powerful: 4-band "automatic", 8-cylinder, V-shaped.

Now the car could well become a full-fledged competitor of the Audi A6 and BMW E39. Even to compete with Mercedes E-class manufacturers planned. After all, the car had to become very cheap.

However, at the last minute (to be more precise, a couple of weeks before the start of production), the management of the German concern decided to abandon its idea. They explained this by the fact that the engine is too weak cooling system. It, in their opinion, could not provide the power unit with a worthy cooling. But in fact, the whole reason was the unwillingness of the leadership of GM Europe to see the competitor's market for the Cadillac model.

Briefly about the known models

So, the "second generation" Omega had several modifications. The most powerful version is considered to be a car with a 5.7-liter V8-engine produced in 2000. This engine produced 315 horsepower, and its maximum speed was 250 km / h. Accelerated the car to hundreds in 7 seconds.

The weakest model is the version 2.0 DTI 16V, which was launched in 1997. The engine power, which is under its hood, was 101 liters. With a maximum speed of 186 km / h. Up to a hundred the car was accelerated in 15 seconds (more than twice as long as the above-mentioned version of "Opel").

Owner Comments

And finally, about what the car has Opel Omega B reviews. In general, this car is told pretty good things. The first thing that all owners note with attention is the incredibly spacious interior, high-quality materials and the complete absence of all kinds of squeaks.

People claim that the machine described is reliable, sound, and no serious breakdowns do not occur (with accurate operation). "Omega V" is not afraid of any curbs, pits, bumps and tram ways.

Of the inconveniences, only note that with the engine running, the luggage compartment lid does not open. Even on this model, it can be unsafe to ice, and in order to avoid problems it is necessary to put a quality winter tire. The most economical models are naturally diesel, even in our time. On the highway, they spend a maximum of 6 liters of fuel, around the city - about 9.5.

The machine as a whole is very good, comfortable and dynamic. In a good condition, the "Omega B" release of the early 2000s can be purchased for 200 thousand rubles. And this, I must say, a very modest price for such a car. But to operate the car it is necessary carefully. Every 15 thousand kilometers, you need to change the candles and the filter, as well as the oil (original GM).
