Treatment of vertebral hernia: basic techniques

The intervertebral hernia is a displacement of the pulpous nucleus, which is accompanied by a rupture in the area of the fibrous ring. More often diagnose the intervertebral hernia in the lower back, much less often develop a hernia in the neck and chest.

This pathology develops due to spinal injuries, infections, metabolic disorders and osteochondrosis. Value also has a genetic predisposition. Provocative factors are also prolonged sedentary work, weight bearing, the effect of constant vibration, incorrect posture, therefore effective treatment of vertebral hernia is possible only if all factors that adversely affect the vertebral column are eliminated. An important condition for quality therapy is the combination of different techniques. Taking medication should take place against the backdrop of manual therapy and the use of physiotherapy procedures, among which a fairly wide spread to date is getting treatment for a vertebral hernia laser.

The main symptom of intervertebral hernias is pain, the localization of which depends on the affected segments. So, with a hernia in the cervical region, pain can be given in the arm, in the thoracic region - have a girdling character. When the intervertebral disc of the waist is damaged, the pain sensations are concentrated in the lower limbs.

To important manifestations of intervertebral hernias is a violation of sensitivity. Patients complain of "crawling crawling," as well as numbness of the limbs. There are motor disorders - weakness of the muscles, in some cases develop paralysis of the legs and urination disorders (horse tail syndrome).

I must say that the treatment of vertebral hernia should be timely and correct, as this disease can lead to disability of patients.

How is vertebral hernia treated?

Therapy of this pathology includes a conservative and operational technique (remove the destroyed disk).

At the initial stage, they try to remove the pain syndrome. To this end, appoint bed rest and pain medications. The choice of medicines depends on the stage of development of the disease and the severity of the clinical picture. In complex treatment often include anti-inflammatory, decongestants, diuretics (for removing the edema with infringement of nerve roots), drugs that improve trophism of tissues.

Conservative treatment of vertebral hernia includes:

  • Motor technique - is directed to the maximum development of the muscular corset;
  • Manual therapy - is performed to reduce the tension of the back muscles and reduce the load on the pathologically altered disc. It should be noted that the manual technique can only facilitate the course of the disease, but it does not affect the pathological process that causes the development of a hernia;
  • Physiotherapy, which includes a wide range of techniques - massage and reflexotherapy, exposure to electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields, as well as ultrasound and light. Laser treatment of vertebral hernia is widely used.
