Toilet bowl fastening to the floor: options, installation instructions, tools and materials

Modern housing can not be imagined without such sanitary equipment as a toilet. Like any household item, it is inherent in it to grow old and fail, so sooner or later every homeowner faces the need to replace it.

Since the toilet seat is fixed to the floor in strict accordance with certain rules, many owners do not dare to undertake such work and prefer to entrust the matter to professionals whose services are not cheap.

In fact, this process does not require special knowledge and even the beginning master. But how to properly perform such works with your own hands, and what features this procedure has, we will consider in the article.

Ways of fastening

Modern toilet bowls have several varieties. Some are attached to the floor, others - to the back wall of the room. The position of the barrel, the shape of the bowl and the way the water flows down may also differ.

It will be very difficult to tell about each type in detail, therefore we will consider the most popular variant - a toilet bowl-compact floor. It is this species that is most often found today in apartments and various public places, which means that the questions concerning its installation are not topical.

At once it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the toilet seat can be attached to the floor in several ways, which differ in the method of fixing the ceramic product. Namely:

• using the standard mounting kit (which comes with the kit);

• on the adhesive;

• for taffeta;

• for cement.

The choice of this or that option depends on the material of the base on which plumbing is planned . But the preparatory work is the same in all cases.

Before installing the toilet, it is necessary to properly assemble the tank (strictly following the instructions) and install it in the right place. After making sure that the water and sewage pipes are correctly connected, you can proceed directly to the installation of the toilet.

Installation with the help of standard fasteners: the necessary materials and tools

To fix the toilet bowl to the floor on a tile or other even and firm base can be done with a standard set of fasteners. This method can only be used if there are no large swings and irregularities on the floor surface.

This method is considered to be the simplest, but it is recommended to use it only for fixing lightweight structures, since its reliability is not very high.

The standard set of fastening for the toilet bowl includes the following elements:

• four (or two) thick and long self-tapping screws with turnkey heads;

• plastic dowels of the appropriate size;

• plastic washers;

• decorative caps.

How to use this set - everyone will guess. However, there are some subtleties in this way of fixing the ceramic product. Let's take a closer look at how the toilet seat is attached to the floor in this case. Let's start with the preparation of the tool.

Tools and materials

Before you start fixing the toilet bowl to the floor on the tile, make sure that you have all the tools and materials at hand. Namely:

• a drill with a drill of the appropriate size (depending on the diameter of the dowels);

• Drill;

• drill for ceramic tiles (1-2 mm larger than drill);

• 0.5-1 kg of cement;

• silicone sealant;

• plastic corrugation (for connection to a sewage pipe);

• pliers, wrench, screwdriver.

Toilet seat installation

The technology of mounting the toilet with self-tapping screws implies the following works:

1. The product is placed on a permanent place and marks the holes for the bolts.

2. Drill holes in the tile with a special drill. Then, with the help of a drill, they are deepened by the length of the plastic dowel.

3. After making sure that the fastening places are drilled without displacement, they are clogged with dowels.

4. Sewage opening is cleaned of debris, smeared with silicone and insert corrugation into it. This is necessary so that unpleasant smells from the pipe do not leak into the room. In addition, the sealing rubber may dry up over time, and then water will drain at the junction of the pipes.

5. Next, the sealant is treated with a toilet bowl and stretched corrugation on it.

6. In the holes insert the fastener for the toilet. The product is attracted to the base until it becomes as stable and stationary as possible.

7. Pre-prepared grout (consistency of soft clay) fill all the cracks between the tile and the toilet. The absence of gaps protects the product from the appearance of cracks and premature failure.

8. Install the tank. On the toilet shelf put a special gasket, install a ceramic tank and tighten it with bolts.

Moments to pay attention to

During installation of the toilet bowl, the tile can not be drilled with a perforator operating in impact mode. This will certainly lead to the fact that the tile will go cracked. The work is done with a special drill, at low speed. Both tile and drill are periodically wetted with water. This will help prevent overheating of the tiles and prevent its splitting.

The fastening screw must be screwed in as carefully as possible. In order not to split the toilet, the bolts are tightened evenly, no more than half a turn for one movement of the hand.

You can not pull the product to the floor without plastic washers. Their absence will come to the formation of chips or a complete rupture of the toilet bowl.

Mounting on adhesive

Fastening the toilet bowl to the floor with glue or cement is considered safer and easier, but in this case the subsequent dismantling of the earthenware will be very difficult. If there is a need to eliminate complex obstructions in the sewer pipe or simply change the layout of the bathroom, it will be impossible to do this unnoticeably and quickly.

The use of glue requires thorough preparation of the substrate. It is necessary to remove all dirt and dust from the floor. If the toilet is installed on the tile, it should be cleaned (to give a roughness) and treat both surfaces (toilet bowl and tile) with a degreaser or acetone.

It is recommended to use a two-component epoxy resin as an adhesive. This compound has been tested for years and can guarantee the best possible fixation of the product.

The prepared mass is applied to the inside of the toilet leg (about 4 mm). The product is placed on its permanent place, tightly pressed and left for no less than 12 hours. After the final curing of the glue, they begin to connect the toilet bowl.

Cement Installation

Consider another alternative method, with which you can install floor toilets. Experts say that if you did not find a suitable glue at hand, installation of the faience can be done using cement mortar.

To do this you will need 3-5 kg of cement, sand and small capacity. Work is carried out in the following order:

• The floor is cleaned of debris. If the toilet is installed on the tile, a notch is made in it.

• The cement slurry is mixed. If there is sand in the presence, both components take in the ratio 1: 1, if there is no sand - you can do only with cement.

• Cement mass is laid out on the floor, and a toilet is installed on top of it. The product is pressed tightly to the floor.

• Surplus cement is covered with the toilet outlet and the place of its connection with the cast-iron pipe. If the sewer pipe is made of plastic, use a cuff and a silicone sealant.

Mounting on a taffeta

This method of installing the toilet is most often used in rooms with wooden floors. As a taffeta is used lining of strong varieties of wood, which is installed between the floors and the earthenware.

The thickness of the substrate should be within 28-32 mm. To taffeta quickly does not come into disrepair under the influence of damp, it is impregnated with linseed oil. In building stores, you can buy a finished product. Most often on sale you can find taffeta from a thick oak board or from rubber.

The substrate is fixed to the base with thick screws or glue. For maximum reliability, an anchor can be attached to the back of the pad. You can also drive a few nails in a checkerboard pattern. The tips of the nails should protrude outward at least 3 centimeters.

The niche for installing the toilet is poured with concrete and the wooden lining is put there so that it is level with the floors.

A toilet bowl is placed on the fixed substrate. It is pulled together with a base using standard fastening bolts, in the manner that we described at the beginning of this article.

Cost of work

At the end of the topic, I would like to touch upon the financial component of this issue. After all, for many, repair work seems too troublesome and tedious, so they prefer to trust this business with real professionals. In this case, all that needs to be done is to find a firm that provides services such as installing a toilet bowl. The price for the work of experienced masters depends on the methods of fixing plumbing.

Most of the firms carry out installation of the toilet bowls only with the help of standard fasteners. The cost of this service (depending on the city of residence) starts from 1200 rubles and reaches 3000 rubles.

A cheaper price tag can be offered by beginning private craftsmen, but in this case the quality of work will be in question. Therefore, if you can not afford such expenses, the best solution is to install the toilet yourself. The price for the work in this case will be absent, and the purchase of the necessary materials does not require you to waste a lot.

We hope that in this article you have found all the answers for the questions that interest you. Quick and easy repair!
