History of the theater

Theater "Comedy" (Nizhny Novgorod) opened its doors in 1942. Then he had another name - "Sniper". Originally it was a theater of variety miniatures. He was created to support the people's fortitude in the difficult war years. Laughter here was a weapon to fight the enemy.

The first years the troupe worked in a building of a philharmonic society along the street Sverdlova. The musical part was managed by the time already famous composer B. Mokrousov.

In 1946, the Sniper was reorganized. Since then, the theater has been called the Nizhny Novgorod Comedy Theater. The building in Mayakovsky Street, in which artists worked several dozen years before, fell into decay. Only thanks to S. Lerman in those difficult years the theater stood and did not cease to exist, like many.

In 1999, the building was given a building along the Georgian street. But before the troupe could use it, it was necessary to carry out its large-scale reconstruction and restoration. It took about a year. The best architects of the city were engaged in the creation of the building project. As a result, a real temple of arts has turned out. Comfortable room, large stage, spectator seats from France, chic interiors. Then the same name appeared, which remains to this day - "Comedy" -theatre (Nizhny Novgorod). His poster in the early 21st century consisted of classical and contemporary works.

In 2005, the second stage of the theater was opened - the Small Stage. First, it was staged for children. In 2009, adult performances were shown here as well.

In 2011, the repertoire of the theater entered a new genre for him - a musical.

The troupe actively cooperates with famous directors, artists and composers from St. Petersburg and Moscow, successfully tours and wins awards in competitions and festivals.

Today, his artistic director is D. I. Konovalov.
