Puppet Theatre

Puppeteers received the status of a state theater in 1935. In the same year they were allocated a building in which the school was located before. In 1936, with the troupe, a studio was opened, where future actors-puppeteers studied.

During the war the building was given to the hospital. Most of the troupe went to the front. The remaining artists joined the staff of the propaganda teams.

In the 50-60's. The theater actively developed. At that time, it was located in a building where the mosque had been before. In 1959 the theater received the status of a regional theater.

The name of Valery Volkhovsky was awarded to the theater in 2006. At the same time the collective became the organizer of the festival among puppeteers at the international level "Straw Lark".

Since 2008, returning to the troupe Alexander Borok becomes the main director. In 2010, the Chelyabinsk Puppet Theater celebrated its 75th anniversary. The international festival "The Ark" was timed to coincide with it. The project was supported by the Ministry of Culture of Russia.
