History of the theater

The Drama Theater (Chelyabinsk) exists since 1921. The first performance was played on the play Vl. Nemirovich-Danchenko "The price of life." The constant troupe at that time was not. Money for the scenery and costumes were not allocated by the authorities and had to find money from the money earned in the plays. The state began to finance the theater in the 30s of the 30th century. The permanent troupe was formed in 1936-1938. It was the merit of the actor of the Maly Theater of Moscow Sergei Golovin. He came to Chelyabinsk on tour and was invited to work two seasons to raise the professional level of local artists.

In the war years, the Drama Theater (Chelyabinsk) worked in Shadrinsk, giving way to its scene to the evacuated Moscow actors. During this period the troupe was headed by E.B. Krasnyansky. His performances were highly appreciated at the shows.

The status of the State Theater was in 1945. The first big tour of the troupe took place in 1950 in Leningrad.

In the 60s of the 20th century young talented actors came to the drama theater (Chelyabinsk). Among them: G. Stegacheva, L. Arinina, V. Chechetkin, E. Baikovsky, O. Klimova and others.

Since 1973, for 30 years, the theater was headed by the People's Artist of Russia Naum Yurievich Orlov. He expanded the repertoire. Thanks to him, the productions became more spectacular, more subtle psychologically. During his leadership the theater began to master new genres. Another merit of Naum Yuryevich is that he managed to assemble a strong troupe.

In 1982 a new, specially equipped building was built for the theater. Its project was created by the architect B. Baranov.

In 1986 the theater received the title of Academic. In the 90s of the 20th century the troupe began to tour not only in different cities of Russia, but also in other countries.

The name Naum Orlov was awarded to the theater in 2003.

The next head of the Chelyabinsk drama was VL. Gurfinkel. With him, the repertoire included new interesting performances that were awarded prestigious awards.

In 2006, the theater celebrated its 85th anniversary. In this year, the audience saw five prime ministers.

The Chelyabinsk Drama was the first theater in Russia and in the world to stage a play by the French playwright J.L. Lagars "I was in the house and waited for the rain to come." The production group came to Chelyabinsk from France. Her head was Kristin Joly - a student of Zh. Lagars.
