High-voltage automobile wires

When choosing car wires, it is necessary to take into account the recommendations of the manufacturer and carefully study the packaging. It lists the models of engines and cars on which they are used. It is not recommended to purchase products that do not contain manufacturer information or the text is written with errors.

As insulation materials, as a rule, polyvinyl chloride plastic is used, which is resistant to a wide range of temperatures, acids, gasoline, oils and does not spread the combustion.

What you need to know

The use of wiring with high resistance is not recommended in systems forming high-voltage impulses and low energy. This facilitates ignition of ignition in the fuel mixture and a decrease in the power of the spark, which is especially noticeable when starting a cold engine in winter.

Measurement of the resistance level is possible with the help of a special tester, but its application is not always rational. For example, the design features of cables with conductive upholstery lead to a change in resistance when the motor is running, which makes this method inefficient. It is worth noting that the usual radio tape recorder allows you to identify the level of interference caused by high-voltage wiring and electrical equipment.

Section

The cross-section of automotive wires is selected in accordance with the method of laying (bundle or single), mechanical strength, maximum voltage and permissible heating. The voltage level in the ignition system determines the preferred insulation material. At high voltages, insulation should prevent breakdown. The best option would be wires for automotive wiring with caps and insulation made of silicones and other materials that are not susceptible to melting at high temperatures and cracking in the cold. It is also worth noting that the structure of the silicone makes it possible to strongly bend the wires and prevent the possibility of electrical breakdown.

Automotive wires: operating rules

Regardless of the materials used in the manufacture and the cables themselves, the following rules must be observed:

  • Regular tightening of the clamps at the wiring connection points;
  • Cleaning of cables from pollution and timely elimination of damages when they are detected;
  • On the high-voltage car wire should not fall into the electrolyte, gasoline, oil and other liquids;
  • Check the voltage level drop on the start, power and lighting contact connections;
  • Use protective covers for plug connections and lubrication with a special compound;
  • Undocking of connections is made only when necessary, as this contributes to breaking and weakening of contacts;
  • Observe the required distance between the engine mass and the heated motor components;
  • Checking the quality of the cable landings in the sockets of the spark plugs and the distributor cover;
  • Timely detection of the causes of short circuit, their elimination and replacement of fuse-links;
  • Check the plug and screw connections for the presence of oxidized and rusted parts.

If it is necessary to replace the inserts, fuses must be used with a suitable level of rated voltage or a wire with the required cross-section.

Manufacturers try to simplify the search for chains and connections by coloring wires in various colors, from black to red and white. The basis of the color from above can be covered with a shade of enamel in the form of bands and rings. It is worth noting that the minimum period of operation of the cables is 8 years.

Malfunctions

If the car wires are damaged or out of order, there are signs that are similar to a malfunction of the spark plugs. The motor starts to stir at idle, the nature of the work becomes unstable, the car itself starts to twitch when the gas is pressed. In this case, the current does not reach the candle or is not fully supplied.

Interruptions in the operation of the motor indicate damage to the armored tube, which can occur for the following reasons:

  • Car wires have a high level of resistance;
  • Leakage current and breakdown due to failure of the cable insulation integrity;
  • Damage to conductors, which are responsible for the supply of momentum;
  • Breakage of contacts at the point of connection to the coil and spark plugs.
