The plot of the series

Ellie Smith is a police detective in the small English town of Broadchurch. Ellie goes to work from maternity leave with plans for promotion, but suddenly finds out that her place was given to newcomer Alec Hardy. Not only is the image of the detective-loser attached to him, he is also very strange and arrogant to himself, and Ellie will have to work with him in pairs.

Not having time to get on with it, the detectives go to the challenge: on the beach, at the foot of the hill, the boy's body is found for 11 years. The matter is complicated by the fact that the deceased Daniel Latimer is the best friend of Ellie's son, and their families are friends for many years.

Ellie is indebted to Beth and Mark, the parents of the deceased Danny, and she rushes into the investigation with her head. Hardy also intends to unravel the matter, but he has very different motives for this. During the investigation, the most secret secrets of the inhabitants of the town and all the participants of the case come up, but they not only do not help find the killer, but they further confuse the investigation.

"Murder on the beach": actors and roles

On the main role in the series, the creators were invited to the star of the British serial world - the tenth Doctor Who David Tennant. He played the role of detective Alec Hardy, who in the past failed a big deal, then lost not only his family, but also trust, and moved to Broadchurch to start over and never again repeat past mistakes. In addition to a bad character and obvious sociopathy, Hardy suffers from serious health problems, which does not prevent his acute mind from unraveling complex cases.

The second main character is Ally Smith, played by British actress Olivia Coleman. She is quite famous in England and has several awards, including Bafta for her projects. The character of Olivia - the exact opposite of the character of Tennant. Her Ally lives all her life in a small town and knows literally everyone, that is, she thinks she knows. She is sociable, friendly and sympathetic to everyone, which Hardy is trying to teach.

Also very dramatic roles of the parents of the murdered boy were played in the series Jody Whitaker and Andrew Buchan. Their Beth and Mark at first glance - the ideal family with two children, but in the course of the investigation there are secrets about which it is better not to know anyone.

In addition to these characters, the show includes other residents of the town, for example the hostess of the hotel Becca Fisher (Simon McAllay), the Rev. Paul Cotts (Arthur Darville), the husband of Ellie Joe (Matthew Gravel), the correspondent of the local newspaper Olli Stevens (Jonathan Bailey). They are connected in the most unexpected way, and many of these links will play a role in the confusing business.

It is interesting that, according to the idea of the director of the series "Murder on the beach," the actors did not know in advance who the killer was. Of course, the actors were very popular with the series "Murder on the Beach". And the location of the shootings was reinforced by success, as there is not much which series can boast of such landscape shootings.

The action takes place in the town of Broadchurch, in the county of Dorset in England, but in reality there is no city with this name. His "played" just two places - a small fishing village of West Bay in Dorset and the city of Clevedon (county of Somerset).

West Bay gave the show one of the characters - a giant cliff on the beach, which towers a gigantic wall. By the way, it is not just a local attraction, it is an object protected by UNESCO. Here they also filmed all the beach scenes, which abound with the series "Murder on the beach." Actors, photos of which are widely spread on the web after the release of the film, repeatedly posed against the background of this colorful rock.

And in Clevedon the sea and the beach are not so picturesque, that's why all the city episodes were shot here - Brodchurch streets, heroes' homes, police station, church, newspaper office, hotel. More precisely, they shot exterior buildings and scenes on the street, and internal surveys were held in pavilions.

Remake of the series

No one is surprised when the popular European shows are filmed remakes in America with American actors. Sometimes this is a completely repetitive plot (for example, as in the series "Bridge" or "Shameless"), sometimes only the outcome changes (as in "Murder"), and sometimes there is only a general canvas (for example, as in "Homeland"). In America, for example, they shot a movie called "Grospoint" and a super popular "Broadchurch", or, in the Russian version, "Murder on the beach". Actors here are almost all American.

But it's interesting that British Tannant was invited to the main role, so he actually plays the same Alik Hardy, only under the name of Detective Carver. Moreover, in the American version the same director and screenwriter. Despite the seeming uselessness of the remake, it was watched by many spectators who did not see the original, and the fans of "Murder on the beach" believe that this is a kind of presentation on the subject of the original with its interesting findings.
