BDT Tovstonogov opened in February 1919. Today his repertoire includes mostly classical works. Most of them are performances in a unique reading.

History

The first performance of the theater was the tragedy of F. Schiller "Don Carlos".

The first name of the theater is "The Special Dramatic Troupe". The formation of the troupe involved a well-known actor NF. Monakhov. The first art director of BDT was AA. Block. The ideological inspirer was M. Gorky. The repertoire of that time included the works of V. Hugo, F. Schiller, W. Shakespeare, and so on.

The twenties of the 20th century were difficult for the theater. The era changed. M. Gorky left the country. AA died. Block. The theater was left by the main director A.N. Lavrentyev and the artist A.N. Benoit. New people came to their place, but they did not stay long.

A major contribution to the development of the BDT was made by the director K.K. Tver - a student of V.E. Meyerhold. He served the theater G. Tovstonogov until 1934. Thanks to him in the repertoire of the BDT appeared performances, staged by plays of modern at that time playwrights.

Georgy Tovstonogov came to the theater in 1956. He was already the eleventh leader on the account. With his arrival, a new era began. It was he who created the theater, which for decades has been among the leaders. Georgy Alexandrovich gathered a unique troupe, which became the best in the country. It included such actors as T.V. Doronina, O.V. Basilashvili, S.Yu. Yursky, L.I. Malevannaya, A.B. Freundlich, I.M. Smoktunovsky, Z.M. Sharko, V.I. Strzhelchik, L.I. Makarova, O.I. Borisov, E.Z. Kopelyan, P.B. Luspekaev, N.N. Usatova and others. Many of these artists still serve in Tovstonogov's BDT.

In 1964 the theater received the title of Academic.

In 1989, Georgii Tovstonogov died. This tragic event became a shock for theater actors. Almost immediately after the death of a genius, his place was taken by People's Artist of the USSR Kirill Lavrov. He was elected by the vote of the collective. Kirill Yurievich invested all will, soul, authority and energy in preserving what was laid by GA. Tovstonogov. He invited talented directors to cooperate. The first production, created after the death of George Alexandrovich, was the play "Cunning and Love" by F. Schiller.

In 1992, the BDT was named after G.A. Tovstonogov.

BDT Tovstonogov in the current theater season has prepared several premieres. This is "War and Peace of Tolstoy", "Baptized Crosses" and "Gambler". All three productions are unique and original in their reading.

"War and peace of Tolstoy" - this is not an ordinary stage version of the work. The play is a guide to the novel. This is a kind of tour of some chapters. The play gives viewers an opportunity to look at the novel in a new way and to get away from the perception that has developed in the school years. The director and the actors will try to break the stereotypes. The role of the guide is performed by Alisa Freindlich.

The play "The Gambler" is a free interpretation of the novel by F.M. Dostoevsky. This is the director's fantasy. Several roles in this play are played by actress Svetlana Kryuchkova. The production is full of choreographic and musical numbers. The artistic temperament of Svetlana Kryuchkova is very close in spirit to the novel, which is why she was decided to trust several roles at once.

"Baptized with crosses" - so called prisoners of prisons-crosses. They were completely different people. Thieves in the law, political prisoners and their children, who were sitting in children's prisons or in receivers. The play is based on the book by Eduard Kochergin - artist BDT. This is an autobiographical work. Edward Stepanovich talks about his childhood. He was the son of the "enemies of the people" and spent several years in the children's reception of the NKVD.

Nina Usatova

Many actors BDT them. Tovstonogov is known to a wide audience for his numerous roles in the cinema. One of such actresses is the magnificent Nina Nikolayevna Usatova. She graduated from the legendary Shchukinsky Theater School. In BDT came to work in 1989. Nina Nikolayevna is a laureate of various theatrical awards, she was awarded medals, including "For Services to the Fatherland", and was awarded the title of People's Artist of Russia.

Artistic director

The position of art director of BDT Tovstonogov in 2013 was taken by Andrey Moguchiy. He was born in Leningrad on November 23, 1961. In 1984 he graduated from the Radio Engineering Department of the Leningrad Institute of Aviation Instrument Engineering. After another 5 years, there was a faculty of acting and directing at the Institute of Culture. In 1990, Andrew founded his own independent troupe, entitled "Formal Theater", which won the Grand Prix at festivals in Edinburgh and Belgrade. From 2003 to 2014 A. Moguchy was the director of the Alexandrinsky Theater.
