Vragova Svetlana: director in the style of retroavangard

Her career can be envied by every director who makes the first steps in art. She sets phenomenal performances in the theater, dresses beautifully, and skillfully teaches her actors the wisdoms of acting. And Vrangelova Svetlana founded the wonderful temple of Melpomene, which created serious competition to its capital "brethren". Well, who does not dream about this from the director's environment? Surely, everyone. Vragova Svetlana herself paved her way into the profession, she had no influential patrons in art. Principity and exactingness in work turned her into a wise and authoritative head of the theater. What was remarkable in the creative career of a female director? Let's consider this issue in more detail.

Dream of "sublime"

Vragova Svetlana Aleksandrovna (nee Gyurjyan) is a native of the city of Yerevan. She was born on March 31, 1953. The future star of direction, was brought up in strict order. The father had a high and responsible rank of the general of external investigation, and mother worked as the translator and in parallel rendered editorial services.

It should be noted that Vrangelova Svetlana began to show interest in great art at a young age. But she did not want to be a director. On the contrary, she considered this profession to be of secondary importance compared to acting. Svetlana dreamed that someday she would come out to act on stage, and thousands of spectators would applaud her with delight. However, the girl's parents did not share her fascination with theatrical art, prophesying to her a "mundane" and, if possible, "monetary" profession.

Learning acting skills

And yet Vragova Svetlana disobeyed her father and mother. After receiving the certificate of maturity, she firmly decided to go to Moscow and enter GITIS. So she did. And, having successfully passed the competitive selection. The girl was enrolled immediately for the second year. Svetlana was somewhat surprised that she was "identified" at the director's faculty. She got into the studio of Yu. Zavadsky.

Gradually, she developed a taste for the director's profession. Already in her student years, she puts "test" performances. When the time came for graduation, Vragova Svetlana Alexandrovna was preparing intensively for the thesis: "The Fifth Ten" (according to A. Belinsky). The work is successful. Soon the girl receives a document about the end of the director's faculty of GITIS.

Carier start

After studying at the legendary university, the girl worked for some time in the Youth Theater of the city of Kirov, and then got a job at the Moscow Theater . A.S. Pushkin. On his stage, Svetlana begins to stage her debut performances in the style of retroavant-garde (a specific perception of the past). After some time, she is working on the play "We are Waiting for a Man" (R. Solntsev), where the representative of the working class appears in the image not the master of the Land of Soviets, but a resigned element that can be easily manipulated. Naturally, this vision of the play aroused indignation among party officials responsible for "the introduction of art into the masses." The play "We are waiting for a man" was ultimately deleted from the repertoire, and the director Vragovoy was offered to look for another place of work.

New Horizons

After that Svetlana Alexandrovna had a break in her work, which lasted two years.

In the early 80's, a female director was called to the New Drama Theater. And again Vragova begins to stage plays, interpreting their story in their own way. Naturally, at first they were difficult for the audience to perceive, but over time, there were many connoisseurs of her work. In parallel with the director Svetlana Alexandrovna engaged in teaching acting at the Theater School. Shchepkina.

Our temple Melpomene

Becoming in the late 80's an authoritative expert in staging performances, the graduate of GITIS decided to create her own theater. And all the prerequisites for this were: Svetlana Alexandrovna was respected by her colleagues, and she herself already possessed the makings of a leader, whom they will follow and believe. But in order to organize his Melpomene church, Vragovaya and her wards had to work hard.

The director was assigned to the theater an old building on Spartakovskaya Square, which was originally a grain exchange. A dilapidated house left much to be desired, not only from the outside, but also from within. A whole year was needed to transform the interior of the future Melpomene church, which was called: "Theater-studio on Spartakovskaya." But rehearsals did not stop even during repair work. The debut performance had unprecedented success with the viewer.

Svetlana Vragova directed the play "Dear Elena Sergeevna", the participation in which was glorified for the whole country by the beginning actress Oksana Mysina. With the above performance, the troupe of the Theater Studio on Spartakovskaya went on tour "overseas", and the American audience appreciated this work by Vragovoy. The repertoire of the theater gradually expanded. And then Svetlana Aleksandrovna decided to stage Leonid Andreev's play "Katerina Ivanovna", about which Stanislavsky himself reacted critically. But she succeeded in this experiment, perhaps because she was approaching the production of non-standard performances. "Katerina Ivanovna" is a tribute to Russian modernity.

"Modern"

And then the Theater-Studio on Spartakovskaya was renamed. The child of the Enemy became the Moscow Drama Theater "Modern". This is the name of the female director who invented for good reason: in this original way she emphasized her adherence to the style of the retroavangard.

Soon the Moscow Drama Theater "Modern" will celebrate its 30th anniversary. His diverse repertoire now meets the needs of not only adults but also children.

Leaving the theater

In 2016, Svetlana Vragova was forced to leave the "Modern". The initiative of dismissal proceeded from officials of the Department of Culture of Moscow. As the reason for the termination of the employment relationship, they identified repeated violations of financial statements and serious flaws in economic activity.

Currently, the ex-artistic director of the theater "Modern" wants to implement new projects in art. In particular, Svetlana Vragova intends to try herself as a film director.
