Machine gun "Kord" - history of creation

Historically, it was not possible for many countries to successfully design such weapons. Among them - the US and Russia. Until now, one of the most common machine guns of large caliber are the American M2 and the Soviet DShK, which were created even before the start of World War II.

The history of the "Cord" begins at the Kovrov Weapons Plant. V. I. Degtyarev. Work on this project started in the early 90's, when the collapse of the USSR. The task of the new machine gun is the replacement of the previously used "Cliff", the production of which was now in other countries outside of Russia. The first batch went to the troops in 1997, and after the prototypes were tested, the Kord machine-gun was adopted by the Russian army. Mass production began a year later - in 1998, and since 2000 it is actively used.

Device and design of weapons

Large-caliber machine gun "Cord" is an automatic weapon, the mechanisms of which work on the removal of powder gases from the barrel channel. When shooting, the barrel is locked with a wedge gate. The barrel is made quick-change, it uses air cooling, which ensures its uniform expansion when heated and, thus, increases the accuracy of the shooting. This figure is higher than that of its predecessor, the UTV "Utes" - about 1.5-2 times. When firing at 100 meters, the spread is not more than 0.22 m.

The trigger mechanism is designed in such a way that it can be controlled both manually (trigger) and with an electric trigger (this solution is relevant for tank variants). It allows you to fire single shots and short or long bursts, as well as continuously. To prevent an accidental shot, there is a fuse.

It can be noted that the Russian machine gun "Cord" - so far the only machine gun among its own kind, which allows you to shoot both from the machine and from the bipod. In addition, among the large-caliber fellow "Cord" stands out for its light weight. Its maximum weight with all accessories (machine tools, sights, etc.) can not exceed 40 kg.

Food and ammunition

To feed the machine gun, a tape is used, and it can be fed both to the left and to the right through a special window. Cartridges used for shooting are Russian ammunition of 12,7x108 mm caliber. They can be completed with armor-piercing-incendiary, as well as tracer bullets. As aiming devices, an open sight of an adjustable type is used, the maximum range of which is calculated at 2000 meters. It is also possible to install a "Kord" machine gun and other types of sights - night and optical. For this purpose, the bracket is made on the aiming devices.

In the development of weapons before the developers were three tasks of primary importance:

- reduce the influence of the movement of automation mechanisms on the barrel, thereby increasing its accuracy of fire, and reduce resonant fluctuations;
- to ensure the possibility of using the machine gun on the sacks, reducing the level of recoil and increasing its stability;
- increase the survivability of the trunk to a maximum, thereby allowing the machine gun to equip only one barrel.

Versatility of weapons

Depending on the equipment, the Kord sniper machine gun can be mounted on a wide range of equipment: armored vehicles, tanks, cars, warships, helicopters, railway platforms. If there is a need, it can be quickly removed from the machine and switch to shooting from bipods. Among the additional features are the transfer of the machine gun to the marching regime, the installation of reflectors or collectors of machine-gun belts and sleeves, fixing the box with cartridges on the swinging parts of the installations.

Shooting from a machine gun is possible with a prepared firing position and no. At the same time, its light weight and the ability to quickly transfer from the march to the combat position allow the calculation to quickly change the location and conduct effective shooting. The following facts speak about the superiority of "Korda" over foreign analogues. The weight of the American M2 without the machine is 38 kg, and with the machine it will weigh even more - 58 kg. By weight, "Cord" wins only M2 Lightweight, which weighs 27 kg. Another large-caliber machine gun - XM312 although weighs less, but has a low rate of fire, thereby losing in this indicator, "Cord".
