Rabbits of the Californian breed: features and breeding
The Californian breed of rabbits was imported to Russia in 1971 from Hungary and England. At the moment it is quite popular and in demand. These animals were bred in the United States by crossing the chinchilla, Russian ermine and New Zealand white species. From the first rabbits of the Californian breed received excellent meat forms, from the second - a dense, beautiful fur, and from the third - high energy of growth.
Adults reach a weight of about 4.6 kg. Female have remarkable maternal qualities and good milkiness. In one litter, up to 8 rabbits are usually born. By two months, intensively growing animals reach a weight of 2.4 kg, to three - up to 3.4 kg. This is a very good indicator. By five months, the Californian rabbits can weigh already 4.6 kg. After that, their growth stops.
Accelerated rabbit breeding is now extremely popular. This is a very interesting method of breeding, first tested by I.N. Mikhailov. This method requires a minimum of labor for maintenance (half an hour a week) and is unusually cost-effective. In this case, the animals are placed in special mini-farms, manufactured in an industrial way.
Homemade rabbit breeding, whatever methods and methods are used, is characterized by extraordinary profitability. Only one litter of the Californian breed rabbit, even with the usual cellular or aviary breeding, yields about 16 kg of meat at the outlet. This is the approximate weight of a four-month-old sheep. And a year a female can be censured up to four times. And this despite the fact that Californians, like New Zealand rabbits, are unusually simple in content. Two of these breeds are considered the most widespread and popular in the world. It is quite possible, they will soon become as beloved by our domestic rabbit breeders as well.
